thinking about this, i wonder if Henry admitted that it was a handball, and told the ref it was and stopped playing there and then, would he be lynched by the rest of his team?

If it had then gone to penalty shootouts, and Ireland won, then..... perhaps. 1x blanket party after lights off, at least.
But certainly he'd have won the admiration and respect of the whole world.

nothing can justify any action of an illicit mean to an end.
why should he be lynched for being honest?
now, the word `cheat' will be his legacy, ingrained on his forehead.

don't you know?
the world is now a cynical mess.. few care for fair play because the result is the be-all and end-all of everything..
which is why the world is a mess..
and there is diving in football..
and there is ball-tampering in cricket..
and there is steriod abuse in the locker room..
even Fowler when he tried to refuse the penalty for the incident, his coach was close to admonishing him for not shutting up..
so there..
sometimes, all this makes me want to stop watching sports
the moment the ball hit his hand..he was stunted too..his face..( omg shit..) but he still choose to contiue. if that is what it takes to win the match..for the country..for WORLD CUP.
do or risk going to p.shootout
people are over-reacting.
I don't see such a big reaction for any diving or simulation or shoving that happens. It's the same offence. I don't see people complain that a defender didn't protest/clarify to the referee that it wasn't an offside when the wrong call is made. It is still cheating to win in different forms.
I'm not saying it is right to cheat. But why are you only complaining so violently about henry doing it and not the 1001 other footballers doing similar things? I don't see the divers being called a national disgrace or demands for replays for that.
this piece of cheating took away the aspirations of a country and a lot of players who were fighting for this one chance to play at the World Cup..
maybe Ireland would not have lasted the 1st round but that's beside the point..
ultimately, the argument of "why are people up in arms over this" is about the same as those who think cheating is okay as long as they do not get caught and win the tie...
right now... a win is a win..who cares about the process.. at least this is what happening around the world. no ?
sigh..
hope france n ireland will be ok.

Nay, I'm saying they should get as worked up over all forms of cheating and not this one alone. Not that they should just accept it as part of the game.
There should be consistency in their reaction. They should not condone the general cheating and then come along to blast 1 specific act.
Guys and gals, I am not siding Henry. If you are Henry, and this happened to you, what would you have done ?
Why can't some of you guys look at a bigger picture, don't be so narrow-minded.
The goal should not have stand, the blame is more to the referee than Henry. Henry could have been honest about it, but did he definitely wanted this to happen? Think again.

if me.. i will be too shocked.. n before i can react.. i have to go out the box..goal kick liaos.
yea..thats why..i say they should see the tapes..tv can replay so many time..close up somemore.
haha.
on the field, a player will do anything just to win.
that's life.
if it were me i would have handled the ball too. Many other players would have too. Its a tense match and its late into extra time, who wouldnt? However in this situation i thought the linesman and ref should really have done better.
