Rafael van der Vaart has said he will not return to Ajax if he is forced out of Real Madrid. The player believes he has better options, but coach of the Eredivisie side Martin Jol is not giving up hope.
The Dutch playmaker has had a troubled time at the Santiago Bernabeu since joining the club last year from Hamburg and has yet to be given a regular run in the team.
During the summer it looked certain that he would leave after only one season. Los Merengues' new board informed him that he was not part of their plans.
Instead, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben were sold after Madrid received good offers from Inter and Bayern Munich respectively, and Van der Vaart was kept on.
However, he has again been used sparingly by coach Manuel Pellegrini and could leave in January or at the end of the campaign. A return to his first club, Ajax, has been mooted.
"In principle I find it too early [to return]," Van der Vaart was quoted as saying by De Telegraaf.
"I do not know if I will stay at Real Madrid, but there are other options."
Jol remains hopeful that he can persuade Van der Vaart to return to the Amsterdam ArenA and form part of a unit that could rule Dutch football.
"I hope he comes. With him we would have the best midfield in Holland," the former Tottenham Hotspur coach told Sport1.

going back to the dutch league means going down 1 level though, i think going to another league can revive his career.

The Mirror says Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will think about approaching his former club Real Madrid to talk about taking Dutch forward Van der Vaart who has confirmed he will be leaving the Bernabeu in the January transfer window.
Benitez hopes to sign Van der Vaart on-loan in January with the view to a permanent deal at the end of the season. Chelsea and Everton are also keen.

if i am VDV, i would prefer liverpool knowing they lack fire power up front.
chelsea would need him because drogba, essien, mikel are on africa nation cup. if they return i think he will be another bit part player too.
everton, i think he has problems even to qualify fr uefa cup this season.
i dont think hicks and gillett will trust him with their transfer funds anymore...

i doubt hicks and gillet will sack rafa , given the severe lack of able managers to turn liverpool's season around. we should acknowledge that liverpool's main problem is with the injuries to key players, so the owners will be of the sound mind to recruit van der vaart

i agree with the lack of able managers. many of them are already commited to their current clubs and who in the right frame of mind would want to join a team struggling halfway through the season, it is a difficult and stressful task to turn liverpool's season around. Besides, it takes 20m to sack rafa, and the problem of getting a capable manager to come as well. i say why not let rafa finish this season? give him the 20m to get another player, hopefully a really good one. Van der Vaart might be able to give pool a new kind of dimension to their game, since gerarrd, aquilani are actually quite injury prone nowadays.
I feel this Van der Vaart isn't as good as most people make him out to be... Perhaps he might not even be at City's Steven Ireland's level at all... For all we know, he is just living on a reputation... The real Dutch players that are the good ones could be Robben and Sneijder only... He could be in the same basket with Huntelaar, Kuyt, Babel, Boulahrouz and Nigel De Jong... Quite good but not great players...
