  Birmingham interested in former Chelsea striker Shevchenko

  Birmingham City are believed to be interested in former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko.

  With the takeover of Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung providing the Blues with some buying power, they have begun to target some big-name players for a January move and Shevchenko heads the list.

  Shevchenko is currently back in the Ukraine with Dynamo Kiev after a failed stint with Chelsea where he found himself back with AC Milan whom he joined in 1999 but he could now return to the Premier League in what would be a shock move.

  Birmingham are said to be keen on a new striker and the 33-year old seems to fit the bill despite having a tough time in England’s top flight when he was at Stamford Bridge.

  It has been reported that Yeung is prepared to break Birmingham’s wage structure to sign Shevchenko on a lucrative deal.

  Dynamo Kiev won't block a Premiership return for striker Andriy Shevchenko.

  New Birmingham owner Carson Yeung is said to be interested in the 33-year-old, partly because the one-time AC Milan star is a household name in emerging football markets such as Asia.

  Dynamo president Igor Surkis said: "I haven't received an offer, but, for me, it's pleasant that Andriy is in demand. Shevchenko is reborn, becoming as he was before leaving for Milan (in 1999). His eye for goal and speed will return.

  "As for offers? It doesn't just depend on me, but also on Andriy. In the summer he made a patriotic decision, rejecting offers from Italy, Spain and Turkey. I don't think he wants anything to change."
