SINGAPORE : The coach of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games football team has died.
V Sivalingam collapsed while playing in a soccer match on Sunday to raise funds for paralysed former national player S Anthonysamy.
The incident happened half an hour into the game and the 51—year—old was rushed to Tan Tock Seng hospital.
He was later pronounced dead.
He was former coach of Tampines Rovers Football Club in the S.League and also coach of Singapore’s under—14 football team that played in the Asian Youth Games.
He is survived by a wife, two sons and a daughter.
Zainudin Nordin, president, The Football Association of Singapore, said: "We are all devastated by the news. Our condolences and thoughts are with Sivalingam’s family at this very difficult time and we will render all the necessary assistance in their time of need."
Last month, ex—national footballer Dollah Kassim also collapsed while playing soccer.
He is now out of intensive care but is still in a coma and warded at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. — CNA/ms
RIP, Mr V Sivalingam..
saw it on tv via CNA..
@ 1st, i thought it was referring to Dollah Kassim as he's still in coma..
hope he get well soon..
why 2 such cases happened in such a short period of time??
These was another case very recently only of a late 20s years old guy playing as keeper for a charity match then he just collapse and pass away too right...
RIP
Usually old or middle aged people have underlying medical condition they are not even aware of in the first place. they should have full medical checkup before playing the game.
RIP
I was playing in the field next to that match. When I saw people doing CPR, my heart sank cos I knew it was too serious.. Haiz.. RIP..
dunno what the organisers are doing man, after a spate of deaths and coma. the organisers should have paid for the medical checkup of these older players before playing in the charity match.
I wonder if there will be another death in future for another charity match?

maybe a mandatory yearly checkup for these older or even all players before even the season starts.
