AGONY ... Jamie Carragher can't believe it
The Kop kings are clinging to Euro survival by a thread after a cruel end to their trip into the Lyon's den last night.
Lisandro's late strike means they will be OUT if Fiorentina beat the French in three weeks. But Benitez roared: "I don't think my job is on the line. I'm not thinking about that - just the next game.
"Clearly it's difficult now but it's not impossible. "We have to win our next game against Debrecen and see what happens in the other match - then approach the last depending on the result. "But we have to keep going, that's all we can do. We have done miracles before... maybe we can do it again."
With Anfield legend Kenny Dalglish, a club ambassador, watching from the stands, Liverpool took an 83rd-minute lead thanks to Ryan Babel's 30-yard scorcher.
Benitez then took off Fernando Torres - only to watch Lisandro grab a 90th-minute equaliser. It mirrored the manager's move at Fulham on Saturday, when he replaced star striker Torres with the score 1-1, only for his side to lose 3-1.
It was the SECOND time Lyon had stunned the Kop giants with a late strike after nicking the first game on Merseyside in the dying seconds.
Benitez admitted: "Obviously we have to be really disappointed because this was a great opportunity - we were there. Again it's a late goal against Lyon and it makes a massive difference.
"How I keep my own head up now is very simple - by watching the performance of the players and hearing the fans singing at the end."
Liverpool, third in Group E on four points, are away to Debrecen on November 24, while Fiorentina host Lyon. Then Italy's Fiorentina visit Anfield in the last game on December 9.
Benitez added: "We know football is like this. "Sometimes you need some luck and tonight we had none at the end.

"is", not yet, i think. all red fans will cling on to Lyon beating fiorentina. if Lyon loses then it is confirmed. else, the door is not shut yet.
fiorentina tis time so good wor
4-3
5-2
I think lyon will play punk, by maybe drawing with fiorentina. Somemore they are away to fiorentina so maybe fiorentina will go for it.
Anyway, the fault is rafael benitez.
He bought Ryan Babel, a player that is known as the next thierry henry, but look what he becomes at liverpool. Haiz...
I think this year liverpool's only hope of trophy comes in the form of the FA cup, NO MORE!!!!

when is gerrard back anyone knows? even if he is back, he is also not match fit, after missiong for 2 weeks isnt it. plus if they are not careful with torres, he may break down and out for a few weeks or worse, 1-2 months.
a 'world' class club hoping for a miracle to make it to the next round?
lol, isnt that already a joke?

man utd also didnt qualify for second round of CL in 2005, when they lost to benfica in the last cl matches, where a draw will taken them thru, but alas they lost to benfica 2-1. life still goes on.
utd can subtain not going through, liverpool cannot, we need the $ at least
dont forget we're in shit now

utd also in debt now, the debt is even larger than liverpool. but the owner gave what fergie needed to buy players he want. thats the difference.
ya
so we need that money even more
I saw the match highlights voronin should have scored when clean thru. so many chances, but didnt score sia
the goal conceded was the bad defending by that greek defender in the last min. he reminds me of cygan of arsenal last time
that defender only 1.5m
i've no expectations of him at all
Ryan Babel's goal was like ... Wah...
What a waste, I think this guy still got potential... But he need to go somewhere where the coach will let him express himself more freely...

play fm =d take over liverpool!
Actually, Pool are still in an ok position I think... Lyon would want first place so they will probably go to Fiorentina and try their best to win... And Fiorentina's last match is against Pool at Anfield so I guess they can still manage to get to the next stage... Unless Fiorentina do it themselves and beat Lyon in Italy... cos even a draw isn't enough for them... only a win will do.
Babel given a 8 rating star peformance rating? WTF??? I wonder that that guy really watch the match anot?
After he score the goal. He cannot even screw a free kick into the penalty box area well. He was anonymous for the time on the field except scoring liverpool goal.
He was a joke. Same as the 1.5million pound Greek defender.

What if Lyon play cheat by trying to secure a draw with Forientina? Their last match is against the weakest team so Lyon can afford to field a weak team to beat them.

Provided Forientina will play along... But I belief Forientina will take the opportunity to go for the win being at home and knowing a win will put them through for sure without even bothering about the last match at Anfield...
Remember, Forientina isn't a weakling at home either, they have already won both their home matches, so it isn't a foregone conclusion that Lyon will not meet any resistance... But Lyon will want the top spot too, so prepare for a battle for this one...

Forientina go for win then liverpool will habase liao.
What makes liverpool chances so slim is becos Forientina is a very good team. They don't beat Liverpool 2-0 by luck.
Do u know they are a joy to watch them play. One pass fluid football.
I just don't see how Liverpool will go thru..

hmm, I think fergie is given the money cause MU did have some success and money came in.. i think things may be difference if (touch wood), MU starts to hit roadblocks..
