Tottenham 0 - Stoke 1 (Premier League, October 24, 2009) Jonathan Woodgate (before he was forced off injured) cleared an early Stoke attack amazing off his own line, while after Spur when on the dominate the first half (highlights here) Beattie produced an equally brilliant goal-line clearance to deny a Peter Crouch header. Spurs continued to pressure the Potters in the second half without success, and five minutes from time Stoke completed the smash-and-grab as Fuller worked magic down the right before teeing up Glenn Whelan for a terrific finish into the far post.
Birmingham 2 - Sunderland 1 (Premier League, October 24, 2009) After Alex McLeish had put out the rally call earlier in the week, St. Andrews erupted ten minutes before the break as Liam Ridgewell headed in Birmingham’s opener against the Black Cats. Three minutes into the second half and the Blues were 2-up, James McFadden collecting a cute flick from Jerome just inside the box before the Scot steadied himself and produced the killer finish. A Scott Dann own goal set up a nervy finish with eight minutes remaining as he haplessly volleyed in a Michael Turner header at the wrong end, but Birmingham held on for the points.
Wolves 1 - Aston Villa 1 (Premier League, October 24, 2009) Wolves forward Kevin Doyle had an early penalty shout which came and went, and the hosts had several other chance in the first half (highlights here) but Aston Villa’s stingy defence held firm at the break. With 11 minutes remaining Villa scored, the ball was worked down the right until Heskey fed Gabby Agbonlahor in the box with the striker able to turn his marker and beat Hennessey. The lead was held for just two minutes though, Kightly won a penalty under a challenge from Sidwell and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake made no mistake from the spot.
Burnley 1 - Wigan 3 (Premier League, October 24, 2009) Steven Fletcher had given the Clarets a fourth-minute lead when sliding to meet Blake’s cross, but the Latics were level seven minutes later as Jensen suffered a nightmare experience as he stumbled, lost his footing and allowed Hugo Rodallega a simple finish into an unguarded net. Rodallega grabbed his second of the match in the 51st minute and Emmerson Boyce added a third in the 76th minute after Paul Scharner had flicked on at the near post.
Hull 0 - Portsmouth 0 (Premier League, October 24, 2009) Following a grim first half, Pompey turned the screw slightly after the interval, with Hull goalkeeper Boaz Myhill denying Aruna Dindane and Hassan Yebda.
