I first posted on SG forums about 3 years ago re: starting a study group in southern mantis.
Three years on and there is a small core group of dedicated fun relaxed people training regularly.
I would like to just open an invitation again to anybody who might be interested in learning a traditional chinese martial art with a relaxed friendly group of people.
Just a brief background of the style.
Southern mantis is a short range style known particularly for its shocking power and close range techniques found mainly from the Guangdong/Kwang si provinces. It is a hakka style for those wanting to know its ethnic origin and is related to White Eyebrow (Pak Mei) and Southern Dragon styles (Lung Ying).. Early training does not concentrate on techniques but concentrates on strengthening the body and developing power with internal linking. A fair amount of understanding of relatively abstract concepts are required at intermediate level to progress and it can therefore be considered a fairly cerebral style and not "monkey see, monkey do" so to speak.
Lessons are free and are held outdoors under a covered area in the Outram/Chinatown area.
Initial training is for a trial period of 4 weeks so you can see if you like the style and how the lessons are conducted. It also gives everyone currently in the group a chance to get to know you and the way you conduct yourself. There is currently a very good friendly relaxed atmosphere at training within a good group dynamic and we would like to maintain that.
Girls are welcome if interested but please be aware that this style is primarily focused on power and training is geared towards that.
Please drop an email to [email protected] if you are interested or have further questions.
