But, believe it or not, I actually do remember the days of sub-$1/gal. gas in California: I distinctly recall paying $0.89/gal. for gas in the Bay area while visiting my sister there back in the late-80s/early 90s. The ARCO stations seemed to have the cheapest gas back then.
