bad idea ... unsustainable ... the math doesn't quite work out ... in the long term I guess ... nuclear is the only option ... we just have to bat the stupid greenies aside .....Originally posted by jetta:Let's hope that the rest of the world can learn from Brazil where cars run on sugarcane fuel. Eh, hello.........a freshly squeezed sugarcane juice here costs me C$8 a bottle. A litre bottle.Originally posted by jetta:Let's hope that the rest of the world can learn from Brazil where cars run on sugarcane fuel. Cheaper, renewable and cleaner.

Are you talking about nuclear-powered automobiles?Originally posted by Fatum:bad idea ... unsustainable ... the math doesn't quite work out ... in the long term I guess ... nuclear is the only option ... we just have to bat the stupid greenies aside .....
and ... perhaps outlaw monster SUVs too ...

I think it should work... at least until the first minor fender-bender breaches the reactor containment vessel in one of these vehicles and spews enough radioactive material into the air to render a few hundred square miles of land downwind of the accident site uninhabitable.
Not quite. Converting entirely to electric vehicles merely shifts the pollution problem elsewhere. The electricity to charge the batteries in these electric vehicles has to be generated somewhere--in this case, by power stations using traditional fossil fuels or nuclear energy.Originally posted by Fatum:....
hell no ... vehicles can go electric .... or hydrogen, with the energy for seperation from water coming from power plants ...
combustion engines are an anarchronism from two centuries ago and are inefficient anyways ... even if we don't go nuclear, converting all vehicles on earth to run on electricity or hydrogen would add another couple of centuries of life to the global petrol supply I reckon ...
yeps ... but the turbines at the power stations are more efficient than the combustion engine below the hood of the average car ... or so I was told by an electrical engineer ... so the math still works out in favour of alternative automobile power sources .... which speaks a lot about detriots' engineering eh ? ...Originally posted by Meia Gisborn:Not quite. I wouldn't touch a Detroit-made vehicle with a ten-foot pole, period!Originally posted by Fatum:yeps ... but the turbines at the power stations are more efficient than the combustion engine below the hood of the average car ... or so I was told by an electrical engineer ... so the math still works out in favour of alternative automobile power sources .... which speaks a lot about detriots' engineering eh ? ...
