Toyota launches 2007 challenger
Toyota officially presented its 2007 car to the worldÂ’s media in Cologne on Friday.
The Japanese team took the wraps off the TF107 as it admitted that it had “under-delivered” in 2006 and targeted a major improvement in the coming season.
Although the new car retains the 'zero-keel' front suspension layout, technical chief Pascal Vasselon said there were almost no carry-over parts from the TF106B.
The squad vowed to address the reliability issues that bedevilled it last year, which probably cost it fifth place in the constructorsÂ’ championship to BMW Sauber.
Vasselon said retirements had masked the team's improvement in the latter half of the season, when he claimed it made significant inroads on the front-runners.
And ToyotaÂ’s F1 president John Howett set his sights on a maiden grand prix victory as the team's ultimate objective for 2007.

Ferrari has revealed details of the car it hopes will return it to world title glory in 2007.
The team released technical specifications of its new challenger, designated the F2007, at a behind-closed-doors launch at Fiorano.
Photographers were barred from the event but Ferrari published its own pictures of the car, the fifty-third grand prix single-seater built by the fabled Italian marque.
The new chassis incorporates significant modifications to the 248 F1 the team campaigned last year in terms of layout, bodywork and aerodynamics.
The F2007 features new front suspension that the team describes as “a major conceptual innovation, mainly in terms of aerodynamics”.
It also has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor and a narrower rear end, taking advantage of the more sculpted shape of the gearbox housing.
The gearbox itself, which is still mounted longitudinally, is fitted with an innovative “quick-shift” system.
The shape of the sidepods and their openings has also been revised, based on modifications to the cooling system, which also implies exits for the radiators on the upper part of the bodywork, while the engine air intake is also substantially different.
For the moment the F2007 has similar rear suspension to the 248 F1, but Ferrari plans to overhaul this once it understands more about the behaviour of the 2007 spec Bridgestone tyres.
As with other teams, there will also be a new aero package front and rear before the season-opener in Melbourne on March 18.
As a result of more stringent crash tests that have come into force this year, the F2007 is just under 10kg heavier than the old car.
It is expected to hit the track for the first time tomorrow, when Felipe Massa will be entrusted with a shakedown run around the Fiorano track. -

McLaren has unveiled its latest challenger, the MP4-22, and new livery at the launch of its 2007 season in Valencia.
The Woking-based squad launched its new-look team earlier on Monday and hope that its latest Mercedes-powered machine can return it to winning ways in 2007 after a winless campaign last year.
Vodafone has become the teamÂ’s title sponsor with an all-new driver line-up of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton also in place.
In its design philosophy behind the new car, the team says the MP4-22 features “some advanced engineering concepts” and “novel aerodynamic solutions”.
The car will hit the track for the first time in a shakedown test at the Valencia circuit on Wednesday, with the teamÂ’s intensive pre-season preparations beginning at the same track a week later. -
At 9:00hrs sharp, the moment had arrived: At the 'Feria de Valencia', the BMW Sauber F1 Team presented the new F1.07 for the 2007 season. Media representatives and guests from all over the world witnessed the unveiling of the car, which boasts several new features compared to last year's edition.
Following a brief welcome by moderator Jonathan Legard, it was the turn of the BMW Sauber F1.07 to take centre stage.
Some of the innovations in the BMW Sauber F1 Team's second challenger can be detected by the naked eye. The newly developed nose is substantially shorter and higher than the one on its successful predecessor, the BMW Sauber F1.06. The entry ducts for cooling air are larger and form part of the new cooling concept, which integrates better into the overall concept of the car and provides increased air flow.
The rear of the F1.07 is slimmer and lower. Due to stricter crash impact regulations, the rear crash-element is much bigger. Because of the higher position of the car's nose, the wishbones run downwards at a more significant angle than in the 2006 edition.
Following the Team Launch and the obligatory 'photo call' for the photographers, guests and journalists quickly set off to the 'Circuit de la Comunitat', where the BMW Sauber F1.07 will take tho the track for the very first time at 13:00hrs.

I can't see much of the rear bodywork clearly...those eatra wings on the nose are interesting, they're higher than the nose itself.
