Democracy was probably what caused all the debt nonsense we see today in USA.
Like a friend who lives there said, everybody just keeps looking only short-term and do nothing about long-term problems/goals.

In other news, I had to finally accept that my primary school pencil was spoilt beyond hope and was forced to throw it away.
But not before I took a picture of it.
It was from an era of "Made in Japan" era after all and that is worth commemorating in some ways.

Was it made by Pilot? I still remember when shaker mechanical pencils were all the rage.

Nah it wasn't.
It was one of those unusual mechanical pencils where you press the knob at the side rather than at the top for more lead.
And yes, I still use my good old Pilot G-1.

Speaking about primary school stationery...... anyone remembers this?
Press one button, a sharpener pops out. Press another button, the eraser pops out. And so on.
I always envied those kids who had these cases.

Ah yes..... erasers.....
We would have 'eraser wrestling' matches where the objective was to flip your eraser onto the top of your opponent's eraser. It was a turn-by-turn game with only one flick of the finger allowed per turn.
Those were the days.

And when we had plenty of people trying to volunteer to be the "duster IC", all for the thrill of seeing chalk dust fly when the duster is hit against the railings outside the classroom at the end of each day.
And when it wasn't unusual to have a duster flying to your face if you as much as whispered to your classroom partner.
School these days seem boring by comparison.

They're all using marker pens and playing on Foxconn products. I wonder what exactly that has achieved.

But I must admit that these days students face far greater stress also.
At least in my time, there wasn't so much emphasis on out-of-curriculum skills.
That's for good or bad.
It really depends. For myself, I picked up those skills on my own initiative, and with less pressure from the educational system.
But for students today, not only is the stress on the academics side undiminished, but now there is the added project-work component as well.
My opinion is that we are just killing students today with the extra workload, and instead trying to give them creativity, we are just strangling them instead.
The root cause?
The chase for the cert of course.
How to solve that problem?
We can't! As long as we rely on the global market, we have to follow the rat race. That's the sad reality that many critics fail to understand.
In short, we are pretty screwed.
The consensus amongst many of my peers was that this is the price to pay for the split from M'sia, though nobody disputes that staying on was not a good idea either.

It's falling into place now. Ford said on Monday that they are pulling out of WRC as a factory team, and it must've been because they lost Jari-Matti Latvala to Volkswagen, which was announced today.
Petter Solberg and Mads Ostberg at M-Sport? It's going to be a great team if it happens!

What I do recall was Solberg's huge crash, where the car was practically flattened like pan-cake when it landed on its top.
The most amazing part was seeing him and Mills walking around after that.

Latvala also had a massive one three years ago in Portugal when the car rolled down a hill at least 6 times, and he and his co-pi emerged unscathed.
These roll cages are f*ing strong but if you put them in a road car they'll kill the occupants in an accident, and the SCDF will have a hard time cutting through the wreckage.

Wasn't there a fatal accident after a car hit a tree and killed the co-driver instantly?
That was really unfortunate.

And it's safe to say that there are many other similar cases which go unreported. I mean, how many teenage boys would openly admit to losing their virginity to their teacher?
