Nope. Expert just confirmed my suspicions that it’s a hybrid.
Apparently there are 2 others who have something similar to it
if someone catches this critter in one of the reserviors here, he'll toss it back ....

It looks rather big, so how did you end up with it?
Ok according to the resident expert, the fugly pike I have:
“They are exported out of Peru under the name manchada pike. A rough translation of manchada is stained or speckled
As far as I know, the only place they have been collected is Peru and curiously I have seen manchada pikes that appear to be johanna type and a saxatalis type (possibly lucius). The source of that unique color pattern is somewhat controversial - many think that it is a parasitic organism that infects the fish slowly over time and will eventually kill it. Because they are rarely collected in the wild, no one has had enough specimens to study and to the best of my knowledge there are no scientific papers on them. But I am sure that there is a facinating story involved and that it will be revealed by someone much smarter than me.
My personal experience with them-
I bought a manchada (johanna type) from Jeff Rapps and had it for almost a year. It was large (about 10") and had a pinkish belly (probably a female) and patches of metallic green. It also looked like someone poured black rubber on parts of it - very cool looking IMHO. I am pretty sure that it's coloration was caused by another organism (virus, parasite?), but I can't be sure. I believe my specimen could have been a female to R1's apparent male. It is known as an "Army Pike" in Japan and Europe. Probably because of the camouflage pattern.”

MPB bought it from the fish shop at Yishun. He sent me a blurry pic and I thought it was a stressed up version of a rare black pike, so I told him to tabao it home to find that it’s very different from what I thought
when I think of pike I'd always imagine the toothy critters I caught in pluto ....
some stupid bird woke me up... it just keeps making a lot of noise with its call

Well technically it's not a true pike.
They belong to cichlid family of Crenicichla aka Pike Cichlids
I guess they are called that due to their body shape
another new addition to the tank of horror? Ok....so what does this one do?

Still trying to catch up on work....

Reading more about them
Apparently the ugly pike I have has been observed in the wild and in some other aquariums to feign death to hunt
As in clamping up of the fins, lying on their side and floating up to the top where the small fishes are to pounce on them

Nay this addition hv been in my tank for about a month already. So far, it’s just being bullied by the other pikes (maybe because it’s ugly :P)
The latest additional are 2 free Synodontis Ornatipinnis (just got last night)
