case in point, there's a three bedroom I knew recently that just went through upgrading, owned by a malaysian PR, he needed to sell urgently, cos there's going to be lift upgrading soon, singaporeans have to pay something like 1 or 2k for lifts on everyfloor, he had to fork out something like 11k if I remember.
when upgrading comes around, PRs sweat.
the thing is still how many people need topay for the upgrading. It isn't that many. I still remember last GE there were planned upgrades and what not in the plans PAP was distributing. Except for my block (not even a covered walk-way). Wanted to interogate the mp when he/she came around but I think they smartly avoided my block
So perhaps some singaporeans benefit a little more *shrugs*
I'm looking forward to attending the workers party rallies
okay... that's another 30k off..
anyway, i was surrounded by Toh Tuck, Jurong East, Bukit Buttocks, West Coast, Clementi.. and i'm... Bukit Timah!!
and when that got absorbed because the MP basically verbally bitchslapped the shit out of lau lee's son, it's been a walkover ever since..
and no.. we don't know who the hell our MPs are either coz there's so many of them

Im not sure if my grc is still aljunied although I'm along aljunied road. And they might go around changing the boundaries again anyway.
If we get lucky and lau lee dies before the GE, this will be the most exciting GE ever.

Yes it is a Wednesday.
It's a shame that I can't clear any of my art/culture history requirements while I'm there.

Holy Goh.
I live in Hobbit Wong's GRC.. it's a walkover zone election after election. It really sucks when you have no say over whom the MIW appoint to your area or have the chance to grill them.

Where the heck is he most of the time anyway - Sweden, right?
true. I just wish that some big shot like LHL gets voted out in the next election. It'll be interesting to see what stunts they pull to keep him in power.
Oh and the farce of the presidential elections where all other candidates are deemed "unqualified"

Thought got one election SDP challenged Goh in the 90s?
Anyway things got a little interesting at one point when Chee challenged one of the MPs to "come out and fight him"....the govt granted his wish and carved out a ward from the Marine Parade GRC just for this catfight and Chee lost handily.
Originally posted by hisoka:key is over the years. which sort of makes sense because you also stay in the house for a number of year. So assuming you stay in the house for maybe 10 years, your grant is really only 3K a year. Not to mention that it's only a once off grant (I think) and so should really be evened out across the years in sg. assuming you live in sg for 50 years and you get that figure.
And for males, note ns = 2.5 years. 1 year income for graduates - ns allowance = more about 30K or more.
if you want to attach a monetary value to such things, then to be fair, the distinction between PRs and Non-citizens and Citizens in other countries is pretty much negligible too.
tell you a story. After I graduated and got a job back in pluto, I was flummoxed to get a small cheque payment from the state gov. It's cos I had a social sec number issued together with my work permit, and since I did not report any taxes for the previous year, they thought I was unemployed, and so sent me regular redundancy checks which I collected and sent back ....
imagine that, I was not even a PR. If I were canadian paying 40% taxes I'd be spitting mad too.
Here's something you chaps don't know. PRs are not eligible for the hardship funds given out for extremely poor families. PRs pay more for healthcare, even at the poly clinics, they are charged more for hospital stays and treatments, they get less subsidies for universities and no edusave grants. And that's on top of the housing benefits I listed above. It's interesting you know, before I took the real estate course, I never knew about the stark difference between PRs and citizens when it comes to housing. Do go read up on that, it's very interesting.
look guys, our goverment is not perfect, but do give credit where it's due, at least we are not living in some third world shithole out there, we just have to compare ourselves to our neighbours north and south. And really, why such pessimism ?

they can only allow a loyal pap lackey to be president. his job will be to veto everything if the opposition somehow makes it into power.

Yeah.... they carved out MacPherson in the early 1990s to take on Ah Chee....
In return, they put Braddell Heights into Marine Parade....
So yeah, residents of Braddell can now claim that their GRC is by the sea....

look, I like that chap .... he's a good man, and your estate is probably the best in Singapore, I love susie's place, which is just further up the road from yours eh ...
streets are clean, void decks are clean, lifts are clean, hell, even the corridors are clean, police patrols all the time, nice and quiet neighbourhood, elderly friendly. And we saw lau goh tah baoing mee pok there before too.give the man a vote lah ...
Now they're using the upgrading card for the elections...*look, this is what happens when you vote us out...you die!!*
And the recent Low Thia Kiang being kept in the dark about the upgrades is farce enough.
Well I only know my brother is bitching non-stop about getting a flat because he is facing the same problems you guys have.
But seriously I think it’s easier for him.
My parents can just sell off the flat and move back to East Coast Road and my bro and his wife can move in with them.

I like lau goh, and I'd vote for him over lau lee's son any day!
Hmmm... Though there's considerabily progress in work and I got both my email account up and working, I feel like I'm being treated like cannon fodder...
I've gotta decide between 3 seperate database, which are the correct data when all 3 could be wrong and no one know's which entry from which database is correct... And the only hardcopy material for me to check against is 14 piece of papers >__> when I have near to 10k entries...

Even if I wanted to vote for the Holy Goh, I can't.... simply put, no one has the gonads to take him on.....
The last time Marine Parade was contested was in..... 1991?
