You know what I’m glad MPB and I decided to get our place instead of waiting to get married
We bought our place 5 yrs ago at 318k. Now those freaking new BTO flats coming up at a much more inconvenient location at Simei is going at over 400k for a 4 room. -_-“

how do you get that 30k?

I get to vote this year.

Hmmz I remember reading this interesting article or website that counted out that the different between citizen and PR was only about a few hundred a year or something evened out over the years and I think if single male, you actually made a loss.
you'd have to pay for the upgrading if you hold the deeds to the flat when the bill comes around (actually, that means that the new owners of a newly bought flat may be hit by the bill when it comes around, so keep that in mind when shopping for newly upgraded flats, must ask if the upgrading bill comes around already)
case in point, there's a three bedroom I knew recently that just went through upgrading, owned by a malaysian PR, he needed to sell urgently, cos there's going to be lift upgrading soon, singaporeans have to pay something like 1 or 2k for lifts on everyfloor, he had to fork out something like 11k if I remember.
when upgrading comes around, PRs sweat.

You have to be 21 right? When are the elections?
Originally posted by av98m:But you see, singles are being screwed by both the HDB and CPF.
Hmm...suddenly I'm reminded of Lim "I feel so rich you know" Swee Say.
actually, even if other countries, you'd be penalized by the banks for being a single too when it comes to buying property. I nearly signed up for one to cash onto the boom just before I decided to return from pluto. Higher interest rates. it sort of make sense, cos you're a single income entity versus, a double income one.
Actually, even if you're single, you can also opt for a new flat under the joint-parents-child scheme. There are like more than a dozen HDB schemes where you can be allowed to purchase a resale flat. There's even one where two adult strangers can come together with an agreement and purchase a flat together, I was told by some wag it's to accomodate all those brokebackers who decided to live together.

I'm looking forward to the GE. Hope there won't be a walkover at my place like the last time. I got to vote when my place was under the bukit timah constituency. Then the gerrymanderers turned it into a GRC. Bastards.

Maybe there's one this year...and just in time for me too.

Most probably this year.

no, you get 30k straight off injected into the CPF, and if you are within 2km of your folks or the same estate, you get another 10k. you can call up the HDB hotline, there's a service where you can input two addresses, and see if you're eligible for the extra 10k too, you can also check the ethnic quota on the address block.'
each singaporean family is entitled to two such bites of the cherry, i.e. less resale levies, you'd be looking at potentially 80k grant.

Why don't you join the opposition and contest?
I'll try to vote for you if you can strut the catwalk.

key is over the years. which sort of makes sense because you also stay in the house for a number of year. So assuming you stay in the house for maybe 10 years, your grant is really only 3K a year. Not to mention that it's only a once off grant (I think) and so should really be evened out across the years in sg. assuming you live in sg for 50 years and you get that figure.
And for males, note ns = 2.5 years. 1 year income for graduates - ns allowance = more about 30K or more.
