HDB resale flats blah blah blah..
in a screwed up economy where everyone knows it's a mess, the people are throwing their money into property.. creating a bubble which will cause even more misery...
actually, I would say it's all a matter of calculation and personal masochism .... I had a friend who was moaning and whinning about the high costs of HDB flats cos he just queued up for one. I asked him where he applied for : Duxton plain, where a 4 room can cost more than half a million ...
me and fatumnette, we are going for a little four room near my parents, we did our sums, even if one of us is unemployed, we would be able to totally pay off the flat in a little over five years.

But if its the other way round. A guy gets totally plastered .. and gals go and grope/molest him .. then how?
then its the guy's fault
getting totally drunk in public places is just a really bad idea, regardless of gender.
Its like, if kar chuah decided to go for a countdown party in speedos and got royally drunk and buggered by a bunch of banglas, I'd be telling him its his own fault too.

I don't go around telling every faggot he'll burn in hell for being gay, I just want that he keeps his pecker and hands away from my ass and not sneak up from behind when I accidently drop my soap in a public swimming pool's shower hall, that's the difference.
similarly, why should ladies suffer gropes and sexual assault just cos some men can't control themselves at the sight of them being drunk and in a bikini ?
that reminds me of that australian rape case, where a girl was brutally gang-raped, the rapist defense ? In the middle east where the rapist came from, any girl who's not covered up was a whore, and therefore, available .....
why would a woman want to get drunk in a bikini?
so that she can dance alone?

i'm looking for a small place near either our parents too..
it's a pain when a typical 4-room resale flat costs nearly half a million.. and the flat looks like there was a gangfight in there and the owners didn't clean up

Well, you can also not padlock your door, spike your fences with broken glass and live behind the grill if you want.
How many years ago was that in Switzerland when he said that?
5 years ago, I can tell you I don’t think twice about walking around in KL at past midnight and would think nothing about flagging for a cab. I won’t do that now.
The world is getting smaller and everywhere are getting huge influx of new immigrants who do not share the same beliefs as you.
Now, you can either send all of them home packing which isn’t going to happen, or you can wait for them to commit a crime before doing something.
You can call it drawing boundaries or protecting yourself but expect this to be a worldwide problem as borders start to blur
I know you lady lah.
Well, of course, the world is getting smaller and smaller, but don't every society expect new comers and guests to conform to the host's social code ?
We may have to wait for a crime to happen, like in this case, before doing something, but we can send a strong message and deter others from doing the same thing, and prevent further victims. Criminal punishments is as much to deter other criminals as to punish the perpetrators. Wouldn't it be a deterrent if the pricks get caught and jailed and caned and the times of india or the hindustan times splash it on their front page back in their home ?
If we would want the ah tiongs to queue up and not spit here, why shouldn't we expect the banglas to keep their hands to themselves and not rub against every girl on the train who's wearing a mini-skirt or a spaghetti top ?

nope, too far away, and during that BTO exercise, the neighbourhood location not good, not riverside one. But we are still hoping for a nice BTO with a balcony for patches.

pretty girls come grope me I don't mind even if I'm sober Anyway it goes both ways.
End of the day what the molestor did was wrong, but what the girl did was foolish and she need to take personal responsibility as well. Leave your valuables out in the open for the taking and then claim you couldn't have been more careful?

I have only private properties on my hands right now ....
but then again, there are many people who can't buy direct from HDB ....
PRs are not eligible for HDB flats, singles can only buy resale, and no subsidies for them either.
actually hor, I would say the distinction between citizens and PRs is quite stark if you read up on the HDB guidelines. They also pay much higher rates for HDB upgrading schemes, nevermind what those SC idiots say. It's quite a privilege to be a citizen actually.

yeps, but the BTO application closed already. We were thinking maybe patches can sleep in the service yard which now comes as standard, I'm just a bit worried the aircon compressors may be a bit noisy for her.
but then I was telling fatumnette, not to stretch too much for our first house, no need a huge one for starters, with this segar one, she can choose to be a housewife and we'll still manage very comfortably, can pay it off even before little fatums reach primary one, and we can build up our family capital for other long term stuff.

I would say, go queue for a new HDB flat no matter what, treat it as a citizenship entitlement. HDB flats are still very heavily subsidized, get any flat, anywhere, and once the few years are up and you are eligible to sell them, sure make money even in a flat market.
with resale prices the way they are now, it's still not worth it to get resale, even for the $30k $ 10k grant, unless one is in a hurry to get a place, I would say always go for a new flat and stay for a couple of years at least.

better than us who saw some flats, asking for $50k cash on top of the valuation - each side of the wall of different shade of colour (striking pink, dark blue, bright green etc), the kitchen greasy and one of the door spoil liao and basically need to do FULL reno.
And this place is not near MRT nor any amenities lor
