Kuta is touristy. Nusa Dua is more upscale and $$$ (the price you pay for peace and quiet). Try Seminyak - it's in between Kuta and Nusa Dua. Won't guarantee zero touts but a lot better than Kuta. Seminyak has loads of nice villas and restaurants. -

2 incidences just buoyed my spirits..
one of our guys was blasting some member of the public when the asswipe started to say that he knows and talks to one of the senile management.. our guy said that then you should go tell him to make that decision which i'm not allowed to make.. and if you are really talking to him as a friend, you should go get him to do it, not some small fry like me!!
the asswipe was angry and after a while, the senile management fella called our guy who in a rage told the senile management to face up and grow some balls instead of pushing all the shit down.. and if he had told off his "friend" then shit like this would not happen.. and the senile management bum became defensive and actually apologised...
the other is some other agency put out misinformation blaming us for some shit.. we found out and just refused to say anything until the truth was found out, and now the other agency is grovelling to us to try to help them out.. we're still not saying anything and refusing to comment
the ending of the day has been good

Anyway, I got the Dynasty hotel. 4* hotel. From what I can tell, it's a few clicks away from Kuta.
Not exactly the most prime location, but we would have to shell out an extra $300/person to get a beachside hotel in Kuta. And I'm still on a budget.
As for flights, I got Garuda.... SQ would cost too much.

i was at Kuta Seaview Hotel.. across a 2-lane road just outside was Kuta Beach...it was cheap as heck over the internet then.. 4 years ago, US$39 per night.. i think it's not that much more expensive coz i checked a few months ago.. i think it's up to about US$45 then

Kuta - very touristy. just watch out for the touts. and if you need to take a cab, flag the blue ones or the ones with some silverbird logo. these are the govt ones and use the meter. rest...you'll get flogged.
