When the time gets closer I'll refer back to LP, but Krakow, Warsaw and Riga are definitely on the list. I may extend it to Talinn and Tartu in Estonia if I can.

Having friends there helps...I wouldn't rough it out alone, expecting every local to speak English. And I'm also not a tour group person.

Best not to travel Europe in a tour group...Was told that German is more common in Europe. Was once told that 3/4 of Europe speaks German...Not sure how true.

Yes, Eastern Europe is on the plans. I have a business trip scheduled next year to Germany and Sweden, so I will get a couple of weeks off and go over Easter Europe (haven't decided exactly where yet) while I am there.
Less people are into Cairo / Greece, and I mean the sort which do not include following a flag with 30 people.

Not true that 3/4 Europe speaks German. Only Germany (obviously) and some parts of Switzerland.
However, most European languages are spinned off from Latin, so if you are able to speak Latin, you should be able to get around. Then again, I don't think there are places that teaches Latin in Singapore. But, I need to check that out.
GND is right - but many people learn and understand German.
French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian are derived from Latin, but the only place you can use the latter is in the Vatican. I think even the people studying to be priests have to fly to Italy to learn that...but actually it's just a springboard for learning the others.
I am gonna stop time when i am at 29. lol

Yeah but in any case, i hate plans...so maybe my plans might just change suddenly haha but being a responsible husband/BF is not something I am ready to be yet haha... I tot so too that this is a good time to visit Melbourne...but of cos with the erratic weather in Melbourne...who knows haha

True, alot of people are learning German. My good friend is a German too, and I know quite a few Germans as well. I am thinking of picking it up since I can always practice my German easily. Anyone else keen to learn German? We can do it together.
German sounds fun but so far i only learned 3 words from my german friend =X

My fav is pronounced like "fork-sa". Which apparently is one of the crudest thing you can said in German. To me its just very easy to pronounce and remember, but the girls will always give me a disapproving look when I use that word.

I checked this place out previously. Their classes are 10 weeks, 3 hours each, cost $490. Its a mixture of conversation & written, and includes an exam.
The other place I was looking at was http://www.cambridge.com.sg/languages/germanv1.htm
Theirs is 10 weeks, 2.5 hours each, $315 but mainly conversation, no exam.
I think I will take the Cambridge one first, since its the first class, for fun, and appetizer. And if I am still keen to carry on, then I will switch to Goethe, where I learn how to write as well.

not sure about the cambridge one but goethe's classes and syllabus are pretty structured and they do a pretty good job with grammar, sentence structure etc. their exams are not that tough to nail, at least for the beginner's one. the exam is a EU certified something.
german's not that difficult...at least the letters are A,B, C etc and not like mandarin / japanese with those baffling strokes. if you know malay...you pronounce the words as they are written.

My friend give me this link, to learn German online.
http://www.deutsch-lernen.com/
But of course, it never really take off... since by the time I get home, there are always more interesting things to do...
We talked about teaching each other languages, her German, and me Mandarin (despite the fact that my Mandarin is really crappy, but thats irrelevant since she cant tell!), but again, it never take off.
The best way is probably to pay for classes, to get a bit of discipline when it comes to learning...

Did you take German classes there before? Both schools are introduced by my friend. She had 2 colleagues' wives taking German at both places, and the feedbacks of both places are pretty positive. I thought of going to Cambridge since she can go there for her Mandarin class too, and we can meet for our regular alcohol injections after class. More for convenience. Peinsula Plaza is so near to Clarke Quay and all the water holes...
