heck.. every bloody country says their military is for defence... and it's been seen over and over that it's a lie... i mean, if they're all defending, who's doing the attacking?
that's the way i look at things... they're just a total and utter waste of resources..

I think it's something in the brainstem ....
it's something elemental ? ....
attack and defense mechanisms part of every creatures' instincts ... because that's the dynamics of nature ? ....
perhaps that's why war is as old as man himself. ... and I think that, and our collective sense of the "tribe", would never go away ...

i would like to think that humanity would be able to outgrow and evolve out of that.. after all, the conscious choice to make a correct decision which is not governed by instinct is what sets us apart as human

but as long as others are poised to kill you ... you can't drop the weapons in your hands ....

Your point is noted. however, I'd not spit in the faces of the people who choose, for whatever reason, to put on the uniform.aggression is part of human nature, that will never change. for a very simple example of that just look at people boarding public transport. watch their actions and facial expressions. in a perfect world, rational decisions will be made. however, history has proven otherwise, as you've pointed out. So we still need people to put on the uniform.
