if i'm not wrong the aspherisis (sp) thingy takes quite long de. whole blood quite fast though like 5-10 min the bag full le. it's the registration thats so long..............

i raise hand & leg for platelets donation, better service received @ blood bank compare to normal donation,
platelets donation can watch movies or TV channel.
only negative point is need to be there before 1630 hrs.
can easily climb up to be champion blood donor board listing,
12 times / yrs compare to 4 times / yrs

I can try to answer some enquires on platelets donation. :) I'm a regular platelets donor.

for a start,
most platelets/plasma donors have to be recommended by the whole blood nurse..
most of the time, they look at the veins size. Mostly platelets donors are male, but also got female but quite rare.
platelets donation takes 1 and a half hour to 2 hours. Plasma takes around 45mins.
the process of platelets donation is the same as normal whole blood donation, one tube connect to a machine, there will be a series of draw and return cycles. So when it draws, you do the palm exercise, then when the machines separated the platelets from ur blood, it will pump ur blood back to you in the return cycle.. at the same time filling ur blood volume with a anti clogging liquid.. me dunno the scientific name..
average around 8 cycles. might feel cold when return cycle.. because of the liquid..
yeah there is 3 movie channels available. but please don't donate for the wrong reasons.

For what's preferred from your blood group, you can go to http://www.hsa.gov.sg/publish/hsaportal/en/health_services/blood_donation/what_to_donate/whats_needed_now.html
The different kind of blood products, is for different purposes in order to make full use of the blood and reduce wastage, eg. Platelets are very in need for Leukemia patients, so a pack of platelets would be efficient than having to use up a whole blood pack for just the platelets. Whole blood is needed for transfusion. something like that..
FAQs to when you can or cannot donate.
The most important thing is to maintain your own healthy body for the sake of others receiving your blood. So don't go there for the wrong reasons like thinking it's free HIV testing, or what chiong for champion blood donor.
It takes a lot of responsibility and commitment to ensure the safety of the blood supply is not compromised. and if you can, also can place ur sample with the bone marrow programme.. You might never get a match with anybody, but if you do, you'll really save someone's life!

The bento set itself is less than $20.
Marutama isn't worthwhile IMO. The standard bowl's $12 but comes with just soup, ramen, 1 slice of pork and some seaweed and spring onions. Additional toppings cost $1 - $4 each.
Another visit to Tampopo would be great too. -
