Manual or automatic?

I used to drive only manual cars but recently, I've started favouring automatics. Only because I'm getting older and my left knee sometimes hurts. All the clutch work is just not helping.
But like someone mentioned that's slowly becoming a thing of the past cos Auto transmission cars r improving gradually...
Moreover SG road conditions r such that u r required to shift gears often...so i guess Auto cars wld be more practical...
But then again i'd still go for manual cars if i cld have enuff road to burn

auto cause i hate the engine stall. Knn even play xbox driving the maual gear car I also can stall engine. I give up!

I agree. Here when traffic's heavy in the mornings, there's alot of clutchwork. Once you get into the city and there's alot of driving up and down hills, traffic lights, etc, it gets annoying to be constantly shifting gears and holding the clutch and gas. The hubster's been using my car lately for those reasons because mine's an automatic. I drive manual.. drive one of those eurovans around (I call it my loti van)
but after I got my licence many years ago, I was driving auto
when i first got my van got a bit stressed dunno whether can drive manual again or not
but the transition was not too bad.
But yes Jetta!! I am having knee aches as well from all the clutch work. It's repetitive stress injury ... so perhaps after a couple of years more, I will go get an auto car liao. In Singapore where traffic is often congested, and u don't drive more than a some metres before u are required to stop or turn or slow down.... clutch work can be hazardous for your health. -

Manual when going on trips or where speeding will be common.
Auto when going to buy groceries or city driving or anticipating traffic jams. -
Manual, I prefer replacing 1 clutch than to replace 14 at one shot.

but if u drive 4x4 to tough terrain better manual.
sports car also manual better.

i still remember years ago.. we drove a manual to Sydney then to Gold Coast from Melbourne...
when we reached Sydney, i was asleep in the back seat... the girl driving the car stopped, pulled over and told me "you drive!!"
she was stressed because of the up and downhills of Sydney streets and there was a jam..
i took over and drove it.. the clutch was 2nd nature and i drove to our hotel after about an hour of being stuck uphill -
Driving a stickshift in winter also has certain advantages.
1. When moving off from a complete stop on a snow or ice-coated road, you can reduce or eliminate wheelspin by starting from 2nd (or even 3rd) gear to limit the torque applied to the drive wheels. A vehicle equipped with an auto tranny without traction control will likely spin its drive wheels initially while the tranny kicks up through the gear ratios as the accelerator is pressed.
2. If you're unfortunate enough to get stuck in snow, a manual tranny makes it easier to vigorously "rock" the vehicle back and forth by alternating between reverse and 1st gears, in an attempt get free. You can do this too with an auto tranny, but the delayed engagement time makes the rocking motion less effective. -

But less than 6 months later, I hardly need to think when I change gears and all anymore. i can't claim to drive very SMOOTHLY but the change of gears and clutching has become automatic!... its quite cool really
It even makes me think that I can even dance one of these days. -

actually, i wanted to buy a manual.. but i thought my sis would be driving the car a lot too so i bought an auto...
then she went to work abroad -
i'm driving an auto & i'll always want to drive an auto coz i prefer to leave one hand free for something else (or someone else).
but i drive manual when i'm playing daytona & some guys may not be able to win me.
