Hi everyone,
I've been contemplating seriously about joining the force for the past few months and have already submitted my first application.
I've spoken to some people who know a thing or two about joining the police, but I just thought I'd share some of my concerns here and hope a few of you are able to help me answer.
What are my job prospects in SPF if I am a female? I've been told that women do not generally go far in their career in the police, which is fine with me at this moment. But will I be told to leave at some point and will I even be presented with opportunities in the first place?
Also, if I do find my prospects to be rather bleak in SPF, and if I were to spend 5-10 years of my life there, what will my prospects be like in the "outside world"? Many people have told me before that once you're in the force, your job experience equals to none as the private sector does not regard your experience in the police as having industry experience.
I guess my main concern is that for whatever reason I need to leave the force, what are my chances of looking for a suitable job in the future? Would it place me behind my peers and so forth?
If my future seems bleak in SPF and also bleak in the outside world, then I really shouldn't be joining the police in the first place I suppose? But I've always wanted to join, and I like the discipline, I like uniform groups and I like working in teams and rather not be deskbound.
Hope someone can give me an insight into this matter...
