Yo, I noticed that you don't like the Catholic Church. Would you like to share why?Originally posted by dumbdumb!:i don't appreciate it, because its wrong. i give the same answer to satanist.
unless u can tell me why it is right, according to the bible. if its not. its wrong.
There are different school of thoughts in catholism, just like there in christianity. There are different practises, and different doctrines in different catholic churches.Originally posted by dumbdumb!:i don't appreciate it, because its wrong. i give the same answer to satanist.

Sorry la, must sound "cheam" once in a while, or someone will say I everything also dunno.
No, the name is more historical than theological. Depending on how you look at it, it may be a derogatory name for the Pope.
Simply put, the Pontifex Maximus was the head of the Roman religion during the Roman Republic.[/b]
a Catholic term 'Ex Cathedra' when quoted by the Pope means that watever he says are to be taken as doctrinal. That is when we come to see the dogma of the Immaculate Conception when the Pope declare that the doctrine of the Virgin Mary being conceived without sin is to be beleived by all Catholics..Originally posted by Himbo:Ah...the Pope...the most sensitive topic
well, from what I understand, the Pope extends an influence but not control over the churches. So difference catholic churches does teach different doctrines.
And apparently, the "infallible" part is not as extreme as some christians make it sound like. No catholic really believe the Pope is perfect. But Infallibility has got to do with Canon Law passing and Legistration. So more of an administrative tool apparently.
I think all this unnecessary friction is when both sides are too quick to attack each other without finding out properly what each is about. I know some catholics who think that christians are not saved as well.
Now my opinion is, the world needs the church bad enough. So are we gonna win over each other or win over the world?
Yah. I think that's their "solution". Because everyone will read and interprete the bible differently so as organisation, they need a "final say" on any issue. And they choose the Pope.Originally posted by NeonTetra:a Catholic term 'Ex Cathedra' when quoted by the Pope means that watever he says are to be taken as doctrinal. My dear friend. Is Jesus God? We all know he is. So if Mary is the mother of Jesus, is she not the mother of God?Originally posted by ventin:I am a Baptist. If Mary is the Mother of God, then how is God the beginning and the end? pls explain!

Mary according to RC doctrine is not only Mother of God, Queen of Heaven, she is also seen as Mediatrix (co-redeemer together with Christ).
There are several other titles given to her.....
- Role of Pope
Perhaps this is one of the basic difference between the Anglican and RC other than the Protestant faith of the Anglican church, Anglican church do not have a Pope.
RC see the Pope as the Holy Father, highest authority in the RC system. He has the authority to canonise people into saints, declare dogmas and revise the Catholic doctrines together with other cardinals and clergymen. He is believed to be the successor of St Peter.
- Purgatory
A RC teaching of a temporal place of torment until a soul id purified and fit for heaven. Some bible verses are quoted but there do not seemed to be any firm ground on this doctrine given the finish and perfect work of Christ on the cross. It is the cause of indulgences.
- Eucharist
Unlike Protestants who see the Elements as simply bread and wine in remembrance of the Lord's Supper. The RC see Eucharist as a miraculous experience in which the substance of bread and wine becomes truly the flesh and blood of Christ although the outward appearance remains the same(transubstantiation).
- Priesthood (another form of Christ)
Celibacy and vow of poverty are required to become priests. They have the authority to pardon sins in the sacrament of reconciliation (confession)
- Ecumenical Movement (One World Religion)
