you are taking your own life for grantedOriginally posted by Ah Ma:siao. all commit suicide will go hell
Sometimes Christians can be nastier than non-Christians. Does it mean they have no faith? What is meant by faith anyway? Faith for healing and prosperity or faith for salvation? Faith as a Person in Jesus Christ because he is the Author of faith and as seen in these verses: Galatians 3:23, 25 which says of faith as Jesus Himself? If faith depends on Jesus and not ourselves, can we be blamed? At the moment when someone prays for God to forgive him thru Jesus Christ, he is saved, but can he be unsaved? Let's say a Christian commits a sin and before he prays for forgiveness, he dies suddenly from accident. Is he saved or not? Similarly for suicide. If our sins are completely forgiven, does it include future sins? Or we are forgiven halfway? Aren't we reborn completely and become a new creation? Can this new resurrected being with Jesus inside go to hell in any way? Will Jesus leave us when He promised never to leave us nor forsake us? What is the criteria for salvation anyway? Isn't it on what Jesus did and not what we do?Originally posted by sillyme:i don't think so.
life is given to you, you're suppose to live your life to the fullest.
though we're justified by faith, faith must be accompanied by deeds. not that we're save by deeds, but if our faith does not bear fruits in our character and how we influence the people around us.. then our faith is dead.
back to the topic. most, if not all, commit suicide because they have reach what they perceive a 'dead end' in life.. if one has faith in God, one will persevere and put their hope in God to live on.. where there's life, there's hope.. so by putting an end to our life, we're saying that we do not believe God can make things change..
so to all who are feeling low, keep the faith and press on!
mailing address for heaven? if we know where heaven is, wouldn't all be trying to get there?Originally posted by cooleo:In the first place is there hell or heaven? Is there a mailing address for heaven? What are the entry requirements? Surely there has to be some standards right?
For instance, to get into JC, you need to score well in Os rite? So what bout going to heaven? Is heaven really tat good? Is there cable tv there?
The standard for Christians is very simple and that's to believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. Nothing else. We need to get reborn with a new spirit. We need to stay faithful to God all our days. We are all born with a dead spirit although we still have our souls, which is our mind and emotions, and body intact. We need to be born again with an alive spirit. Only our spirit and soul can get to heaven. Our bodies die.Originally posted by cooleo:In the first place is there hell or heaven? The Christian Faith is to accept God as our Creator and that Jesus came to save us from our sins. It is also that we die to ourselves and follow the what God's will.Originally posted by Devils_advocate:Sometimes Christians can be nastier than non-Christians. Does it mean they have no faith? Maybe that Christian will lose all his reward in heaven but come to think of it-God is a fair judge. I think He won't forget the few good deeds that the person did. Anyway, all the bad deeds are forgotten and the only bad deed remaining I think would be the suicide bcos he can't repent from it. If he confessed everything before he jumped that is. Like you said there is no clear indication in the bible as with other issues. It's like gambling with salvation. Bcos He judges everything. Christians are also judged but not in the sinners' sense when it comes to rewards. If we build our foundations on gold, silver and precious stones, we will have glory. But if we build it on wood, hay or stubble, we will be burnt and chow tar but we will be saved thru the fire. I wonder if it's the same for that person who committed sucide.Originally posted by gasband:Hi!
to be frank, the bible has no clear instructions on where christians who commit suicide go to. If you ask me, I would sway to agree with you. But before anyone jumps and say that christianity is just a licence to do bad things and yet go heaven, let me explain.
It is true that in Hebrews 13:5 that God says that He will never leave you nor forsake you. And we are all assured by the fact that Jesus said in John 3:16 that if we BELIEVED, we will not perish but have eternal life. This verse is not conditional on what you would do in the future. It is WHEN YOU BELIEVED, THE END result is known and sealed and that is YOU WILL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. Therefore, there is no question for me that once a person, at the point of putting his faith and belief in Jesus with all his sincerity, he will never lose his salvation.
However, if anyone were to say then suicide would be a faster way to heaven. Its like taking a shortcut. This is a warning then.
Revelations 20:12-13
"And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what HE HAD DONE."
Yes, christians may still go to heaven no matter how or what but when God comes again to judge, and knowing that God is a fair and pure holy Judge, what will you say to God when you come before Him through comitting suicide?
Penny for your thoughts.
Peace.
true..u r right. When Jesus was on the cross..there were two thieves hanging on the cross beside Him. One mocked at Him while the other repent and ask for God's forgiveness...and Jesus said to him 'Truly i say to you, today you will be with Me in paradise."Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:What if he repents before he smashes onto the ground? God is merciful you know.
Do you agree with me that God is not fair bcos grace itself is an unfair thing? There's the problem of election. Who to save and who not to save. God says he will have compassion on whom he will have compassion and he will have mercy on whom he will have mercy. And many other unfair verses on grace. I know he is unfairly good to some but this also shows that he is unfairly bad to others. According to Calvin, we are predestined to be saved or not saved. Same as with Paul. So how can God blame those who are not saved by him if it doesn't depend on themselves? I think there should be some balance here about grace. There are many verses warning also that a born again Christian can be lost too. For eg : Hebrews 10:29 "Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?" In the next verse, God says He will judge His people. I don't think it's referring to non christians bcos this person has been "sanctified by the blood of the covenant" and yet sinned greatly. God will judge him and give him "worse punishment". And again in 2 Peter 2:20-22. It's too long. Pls read for yourself. Those people mentioned are those who have been saved but returned to their old ways. They are not non believers bcos they have escaped the pollutions of the world thru Jesus Christ and the last verse says it very well - "a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire". Now aren't christians washed with the blood of the Lamb? I think there should be some balance here or a catch to grace for those who abuse it.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:There's no need to overeact to the idea of grace abuse, for if you can seriously consider abusing the grace given you as a tickent to do whatever you want, I suggest you go seriously reconsider what is the grace you are accepting.
The grace we have is free but it ain't cheap.
If we are in a marriage, do we on the wedding night start drawing out a contract with our partner on how much we can cheat on them and still recieve their grace? We will be denounced as a fraud! After all, instead of telling people not to abuse grace, point out that it is a wonderful gift that had been given to them, would they dare spoil it and render their relationship with their Maker a fraud?
I don't deny that we all at our times have tried to abuse grace, but then again, we all need grace to overcome that , though we fail, we still must try in his grace or else to shun it and strike it out on our own strength is legalism.
T'was GRACE that taught my heart to fear and GRACE my fears relieved. How precious is that GRACE appeared. The hour I first believed............Originally posted by sillyme:Grace is getting what we don't deserve. And God has fully demonstrated it when Jesus died on the cross. He did not die just for few individuals but He died for all ( 1 John 2:2 ; 2 Peter 3:9 ; 2 Cor. 5:19).
God has already done what is required for us to go back to Him. It is up to us to choose Him. Our salvation is not a predestined one. But God desire all men to be saved ( 1 Timothy 2:4 ) and desires none to perish ( Ezekiel 18:23 ).
God has given free will and without a doubt Christians can still choose to sin ( Hebrews 10:26 ). We are not predestined for salvation nor to hell because if we were, then there will be no free will.
Ultimately, some will choose to abuse God's grace. But it's the very same grace that allows us to be forgiven. It's really up to us to persevere in our faith and continue to put our trust in Him
so it means that as long as you repent b4 you die, you'll still go to heaven?Originally posted by NeonTetra:true..u r right.
