Thats what you're saying
Tcmc,
Nope. I am saying that there are commands given that are only meant for a specific people for a specific time for a specific purpose. Bible critics distort the Bible when they try to use such commands to prove that it should be done so today. Why do Bible critics like to use the OT but not appeal to the NT? The answer is obvious. They fail to understand the Bible as it was meant to be understood. They see God command something, and they assume that every command is universal and must be applied across space and time.

Yes exactly, you're saying the OT commands from God are not universal truths and subject to changes in "space and time."
I agree with you.

2. But what about the amalek babies? What wrong have they done? : (
Tcmc,
Are you REALLY concerned about the babies? despondent said something which you missed, that God knows all things. God knew that if the whole group was not exterminated, that they will come back and be Israel's downfall. Even today when we exterminate pests, we don't just kill those we see in our house. We kill even those we do not see, we annihilate them all. Why?

Tcmc,
For the thousandth time, you are misrepresenting me with deceptive intent. I did not say that the OT commands from God are not universal truths. I said you need to read the Bible properly. There are universal commands and there are localised commands. Use your brain please.

ever heard of the whole family getting killed cos one member committed a heinous crime?
Yea heard of it. This was usually practiced in ancient civilisations when people were uneducated and and no power against the rulers

i get it. God knows its good to "wipe off" the babies. Sure. Babies? PestS? Ok.

Yes localised, but not acceptable anymore today , right?

Tcmc,
Again we see that deceptive and wilful distortion of my posts. I never said babies are pests. Yes, and the point is that God knows all things, but you don't.

Tcmc,
Use your brain. If a command was only meant for someone thousands of years ago, do you think you should apply it to yourself today? The prophet told Naaman to wash himself in the river, so you think anyone with leprosy should also do the same? Common sense man!

Ok localised. I agree it's localised.
Can you tell me if stoning and "removing sinners by the sword using armies" are acceptable today?
And also explain why?

BIC, let me quote you
Your Quote -- "Even today when we exterminate pests, we don't just kill those we see in our house. We kill even those we do not see, we annihilate them all. "
And you said this when I was asking you about the babies. naturally I would wonder why you use pests as example.

Tcmc,
The point being made was about the rationale for exterminating everything. What's absurd was that you missed that whole point and instead haggled over whether babies are pests!

Tcmc,
Here's the thing. You read the Bible and "studied" it deep deep right? What did Jesus say concerning the use of the sword and His kingdom? Need a hint?

So you're saying OT God say "A" but NT God say "B"?

Cant blame me. You use "annihilating pests" when we were talking about "exterminating babies" . Misleading.

You were the one misreading, I wasn't the one misleading.
how abt God meant A and B but he revealed A in the OT and B in the NT? just like how he revealed his judge nature in the OT and the loving Father nature in the NT?
Originally posted by Tcmc:So you're saying OT God say "A" but NT God say "B"?
Nope. That's not what I am saying. Please read properly what I did say. I am saying that if God said "A" then we should first understand who this was intended for and for what purpose and whether it should be applicable to us today.

Why you keep coming up with "what if" scenarios? Like that where got end? Shoot down one you come up with another. All this just so that you can finally come up with one where you can finally say "Aha! Got you, now you know why I must reject the Bible, right?"
