my feel is that sometimes churches are not able to put themselves into others shoes.... Christians seem to go around with the ideal that we all have the right to tell the world about God and Christ through shows like Passion of Christ or subtlely through Narnia... but why is it that Atheists do not have the right to tell the world their POV??? I don't have to necessarily share the same POV, but to allow someone else the right to do so is really not wrong....Originally posted by SumOne:Like what some have said, for the same reason if they place restrictions on shows like Golden Compass, they should enforce the same standards and have similar restrictions on shows like Narnia or even Passion of Christ.
Stopping them from watching the show may not entirely help, because there will be their friends in school or wherever that would have watched the show and talked about it. It would help to educate them based on your own biblical standing rather than let them be lost and not understand what is going on when others talk about the show.
You can do your part even to point out in what way the show criticises your faith and address these criticisms. Just a suggestion though.
so brey, has your holy book allowed you to make an accusation on someone else, without witnesses??? or is it one of your personal interpretation???Originally posted by breytonhartge:CE from now on, I won't even bother with you anymore... its not worth the time. You are just a troll.... the pages in EH speak for themselves, even more so since you became a mod... you did exactly what you said I should not do.
very very correct. In the end its the person that makes the decision. Parents should not enforce the decision on their child. But parents should supply them the sufficient facts and knowledge needed in making the decision, like consequences etc..Originally posted by Chin Eng:this is probably the crux of my parenting style.
i am exposing my boys to the media to equip them with the ability to cope with the secular world.
i do not hide many things from them.
they even went through a "course" with me on all the different swear words that they will encounter. i told them: they can choose to use them or not - it's up to them. guess what, as far as i know, they have never used a swear word purely because they know it is rude and unnecessary.
during our holiday travels, we even go up in front of shops that sell pornograpy and i tell them what the business is, inside....
parenting, to me, is mentoring (note that I do not say I know it all). Mentoring someone to be able to walk on his own two feet, so that when the mentor is not around anymore, the individual can carry his own weight and doing what is right.
Seeing "National Treasure II" this afternoon..... i certainly hope that this movie will agree with my moral and spiritual upbringing

vince its hard to talk to this other person because he has already formed a set opinion about where I am coming from, ie from a strictly jewish background. which is his first mistake and misconception. So once you start off the wrong footing, everthing else is precieved wrongly... I am coming from a biblical standpoint, which is go back to what is written in the bible in the OT to you guys and see what Yahweh wants of us... then you fit the NT into that mindset, not start with the NT and then try and fit the OT into that...Originally posted by vince69:I am not even sure its Halal or not... just that I find the food there ... yummy.. need to say more?
which basically underlines the assumption that you have started on the RIGHT footing, henceforth, most people have the wrong footing to start with.... which amounts to - brey's right and everyone's wrong. so that being the case, this person has said it before: there's nothing to discussion.Originally posted by breytonhartge:vince its hard to talk to this other person because he has already formed a set opinion about where I am coming from, ie from a strictly jewish background. which is his first mistake and misconception. you are not the first person to claim to have known "biblical" truth, and you will not be the last.... but you so-called knowledge is not a universally accepted interpretation, it is at best, a minority opinion.... nonetheless, you have succeeded in turning a dialogue concerning opinions and how best to express them into a "doctrinal" argument.Originally posted by breytonhartge:and still he does not get it...
What? The NT is authoritative for you?Originally posted by breytonhartge:I am coming from a biblical standpoint, which is go back to what is written in the bible in the OT to you guys and see what Yahweh wants of us... then you fit the NT into that mindset, not start with the NT and then try and fit the OT into that...
85% of the Brit Chadashah is quoted from the Tenakh... and who said it was the rc church that produced the NT??Originally posted by Icemoon:What? The NT is authoritative for you?
You dunno meh .. the NT canon was the work of the Catholic Church. If you disagree with them doctrinally, why do you still embrace their canon?
Of course it quotes from the Tanakh .. or else quote from where? Homer? Plato?Originally posted by breytonhartge:85% of the Brit Chadashah is quoted from the Tenakh... and who said it was the rc church that produced the NT??
Aiya nvm la. everyone naturally thinks that their view is the correct one.Originally posted by Chin Eng:you are not the first person to claim to have known "biblical" truth, and you will not be the last.... but you so-called knowledge is not a universally accepted interpretation, it is at best, a minority opinion.... nonetheless, you have succeeded in turning a dialogue concerning opinions and how best to express them into a "doctrinal" argument.
my belief system comes from your bible, if that is wrong, then your faith has nothing to stand on...Originally posted by davidche:Aiya nvm la. everyone naturally thinks that their view is the correct one.
Only thing is that one must be aware that there is a possiblilty of being wrong thats all.
was i creating my own religion? hmmm...Originally posted by Icemoon:Of course it quotes from the Tanakh .. or else quote from where? Homer? Plato?
Which is easier - creating your own religion or modifying an existing one? Even Islam talks about Moses and Jesus!
It was the RC Church that declares the various writings to be part of the canon. So they produced the NT. If not for them, maybe today you be reading Marcion's compilation.

actually not everyone..... personally, my views are only true to myself. I can share it, but i will NEVER EVER state that my views are the only correct view.Originally posted by davidche:Aiya nvm la. everyone naturally thinks that their view is the correct one.

Since when does this happen in BWB? You trolled in BWB forum with your non-sensical, irrelevant and malicious posts, and consequently some of your posts were deleted. Not being able to troll there anymore, you decided to carry on your 'activities' in this unmoderated forum? Pathetic.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:Get used to it, it often happens in BWB forum.
