mai siao siao .. his teacher (thesis professor?) is the eminent Bruce Metzger, who is responsible for the NRSV. You will see Metzger's preface in any NRSV bible.Originally posted by laoda99:Actually, the author u quoted of that book misquoting Jesus is not very much different from other scholars.
They are "Christian" scholars. Like misquoting Jesus's one, he is an atheist.
Do you read Jewish sources for the Old Testament?Originally posted by skyodise:I just believe that not everything written in the bible should be take literally coz some of it is actually a traditional mythology or metaphor that the purpose is to send a moral message not to tell a history.
The two most orthodox and famous New Testament Scholars I know:Originally posted by laoda99:Many can call themselves "New Testament Scholars". But they are not really Christian. Anyone can study theology in the States.
Yeap, as you see most of this respectable Christian scholar that coming from respectable Theology school or University (e.g. oxford, princeton, cambridge, etc) are Moderate Christian or even Liberal Christian. Mainstream Christian still belong to this school of thought.Originally posted by Icemoon:mai siao siao .. his teacher (thesis professor?) is the eminent Bruce Metzger, who is responsible for the NRSV. hmm .. I'd say faith and scholarship are not the same.Originally posted by skyodise:What I saw in Singapore is many/most of popular church and Christian cell group in campus has Fundamentalist Christian dogma which IMO is not a good idea.
so true, one do not need to be a Christian to be able to memorise the Bible, someone with a photograhic memory will be able to do the job.Originally posted by Icemoon:hmm .. I'd say faith and scholarship are not the same.

Yes, but faith alone is not enough and can be dangerous.Originally posted by Icemoon:hmm .. I'd say faith and scholarship are not the same.
Maybe you should intro .. are you a Christian yourself?Originally posted by skyodise:Yes, but faith alone is not enough and can be dangerous.
Must put some sense to it.
God give us brain to have a good sense and have a logic thinking. We better use it.
Yes, I am Christian because my parents Christian and I got baptism when I still infant. I used to believe bible literally but now not anymore, since as I growth and information that I previously don't know now easily available from books, internet, etc. The things that preivously I can not get it, now become understandable with a new point of view.Originally posted by Icemoon:Maybe you should intro .. are you a Christian yourself?

Currently I still consider myself a Christian, Liberal Christian I guess. But I think I'm moving toward Agnostic. So now you see the progression there
Anything else you want to know? or maybe you can also introduce yourself, since I'm new here in this forum.
thats why we have the Scriptures, its not just knowing and understanding what you believe in, but also being convicted in what you believe in.Originally posted by skyodise:Yes, but faith alone is not enough and can be dangerous.

I agree.Originally posted by Icemoon:well .. like laoda said .. it is good to be balanced while reading works by secular scholars.
how about some mini intro about your church and church life? don't need to tell the church name, just something about your church life and your slant of theology? for example are you charismatic? methodist? etc.
Perhaps you should try to restore your faith first.
I went to mainstream church like lutheran and presbyterian. Not charismatic for sure.Originally posted by Icemoon:how about some mini intro about your church and church life? don't need to tell the church name, just something about your church life and your slant of theology? for example are you charismatic? methodist? etc.

(I advertising this for the nth time already)Originally posted by skyodise:I went to mainstream church like lutheran and presbyterian. Not charismatic for sure.
BTW I saw your previous post that you also read Misquoting Jesus, good book indeed. Maybe we should start a new topic in this forum base on that book.
Another topic that I also looking forward in this forum is about Christian Fundamentalist, I think these are the people that need to restore their faith to the right way.
