The charismatic churches will never say that the tongues mentioned in Acts are actual languages, even when it is so plainly stated so in the Bible.Originally posted by Icemoon:aknoo123, your example does not apply because those tongues are actual languages.
Most tongues today are just plain gibberish.
There is a need to distinguish between the two.
well .. to be fair tongues can be angelic tongues, right?Originally posted by fandango:The charismatic churches will never say that the tongues mentioned in Acts are actual languages, even when it is so plainly stated so in the Bible.
Sometimes they use Romans 8:27 to justify the use of tongues. Totally out of context. so watch out for it.

Good question. Anyone?Originally posted by :Speaking in tongues could oso happen if one is possessed by the Devil, could it not? If so, how do we know if the act is a manifestation of the spirit of God or the devil..........? Please enlighten........
that is why Paul strongly encourages understanding isn't it? If believers don't understand your gibberish, then how does it benefit them?Originally posted by fandango:Good question. Anyone?
Secular research paints modern day tongues as emotionalism. Its gibberish and by right they shoudl intepretate it themselves.Originally posted by outofcontrol225:Is speaking in tongues just gibberish? What kind of research has been done on this?
I heard there are true stories of people who suddenly can speak foreign tongues, either during worship or when doing missionary work.Originally posted by Pope Nicholas:Secular research paints modern day tongues as emotionalism. Its gibberish and by right they shoudl intepretate it themselves.
Augustine and Aquinas argued that the gift of tongues had ceased.
A few Saints had it like Francis Xavier whose body remains uncorrupted. But the idea of an entire tongue speaking church is what Aquinas and Augustine believed had ceased since the Church has spread to all nations.Originally posted by Icemoon:I heard there are true stories of people who suddenly can speak foreign tongues, either during worship or when doing missionary work.
Augustine and Aquinas were not spiritually-filled people. so they ate sour grapes and said tongues had ceased.
Most of the congregation should be fake one.Originally posted by Pope Nicholas:A few Saints had it like Francis Xavier whose body remains uncorrupted. But the idea of an entire tongue speaking church is what Aquinas and Augustine believed had ceased since the Church has spread to all nations.
