honestly, i have nv read the Antiquities beforeOriginally posted by Icemoon:
Actually one of the most convincing challange is why the passage is so short.
As a Jew, Josephus like quite bochup that someone has fulfilled the prophecies. If you read Antiquities, it is basically a history of the Jews right? The appearance of Jesus and his resurrection should be the culmination of the whole book, but Josephus just qing1 miao2 dan4 xie3 dai4 guo4 qu4.
unless he is telling us resurrection is the norm of the day.
One of the 10 commandments say thou shall not bear false witness?Originally posted by ben1xy:my faith and my occupation requires me to agree with u

So if any Christian tries to cover up even non biblical issues, he has sinned. Note the decalogue never distinguish between biblical or non biblical issues.
Me too. I actually read the studylight url in order to verify Ironside's article by Josh, before you listed the url.Originally posted by ben1xy:honestly, i have nv read the Antiquities before
i think this holiday must make the effort to go read it
that shld be interesting then. honestly, i am pretty much lacking in my knowledge of the Jews. yep. i'll definitely go and look for the english translation version. i think there are some online resources, but nothing beats a good book.Originally posted by Icemoon:Me too. I realized it is basically one long history book about the Jews.
wait a minute .. make sure you don't bring library books to toilet hor .. 'cos I might be the next borrower.Originally posted by ben1xy:that shld be interesting then. honestly, i am pretty much lacking in my knowledge of the Jews. yep. i'll definitely go and look for the english translation version. i think there are some online resources, but nothing beats a good book.
can bring to toilet and read somemore
i enjoy reading in the toilet.. hahaa, next time disinfect the library books cause there are many like minded ppl like meOriginally posted by Icemoon:wait a minute .. make sure you don't bring library books to toilet hor .. 'cos I might be the next borrower.
Anyway here is a bit of trivia on Josephus - he was a turncoat general.
The first time I read of it in a book, I thought that was funny.Originally posted by ben1xy:i enjoy reading in the toilet.. hahaa, next time disinfect the library books cause there are many like minded ppl like me
turncoat general? wow. i definitely didn't know that, i always thought he was a historian
Josephus, who introduced himself in Greek as "Joseph, son of Matthias, an ethnic Hebrew, a priest from Jerusalem" [2], fought the Romans in the First Jewish-Roman War of 66-73 as a Jewish military leader in Galilee. After the Jewish garrison of Yodfat was taken under siege, the Romans invaded, killed thousands, and the remaining survivors who had managed to elude the forces committed suicide. However, in circumstances that are somewhat unclear (see also Josephus problem), Josephus surrendered to the Roman forces invading Galilee in July 67. He became a prisoner and provided the Romans with intelligence on the ongoing revolt. The Roman forces were led by Flavius Vespasian and his son Titus, both subsequently Roman emperors. In 69 Josephus was released (cf. War IV.622-629) and according to Josephus' own account, he appears to have played some role as a negotiator with the defenders in the Siege of Jerusalem in 70 A.D.Haha .. I'm sure you are not the only one. Christians only know (if they know) Josephus wrote about the resurrection of Christ.
still, we were discussing the practices of scientific research, not if einstein won a nobel laural.Originally posted by Icemoon:Yes, special relativity owned its origin to Maxwell's equations which cemented the belief that light is a wave.
However, I have to remind you that Einstein was never awarded a nobel prize for his work on relativity. And you know the reason why lah.
Put it this way - even if you fit all known equations, it is still maths. It won't become physics until the first prediction becomes verified.
yes.Originally posted by Ironside:but you can examine their testimonies.
well, the fact that einstein was not awarded the nobel prize for relativity shows the practices of scientific research - it was not really "accepted" by the scientific community.Originally posted by nomood:still, we were discussing the practices of scientific research, not if einstein won a nobel laural.
Also, there's a good reason why maths is the underlying fundamental of physics. without a proper theoretical rigour in research methodology, most experiments would be at best, guesswork. one could almost think of physics as a test of mathematical equations, and not the other way round.
of course, that's not to say that experiments nowadays are foolproof...
You are right. It is the same argument against Intelligent Design. The probability of other states are simply .. undefined.Originally posted by nomood:Anothe example. You claim to have found happiness in christ. Who is to say, though, that had you been reading the koran you wouldn't have found the same peace? that being the case, your testimonial is thus based on your personal perception, and the bible was nothing more then a placebo.
it's funny, i'd have thought that someone who's as zealous as you to have understood the concept of half truths and lies...
And thus, like i said, physics is a test of mathematical equations, not the other way round.Originally posted by Icemoon:Or else with two competing theories both purporting to reconcile other physical equations, which one are you going to choose?
I get really really annoyed when people start on and on about how the bible IS the truth, and insist upon it.Originally posted by Icemoon:You are right. It is the same argument against Intelligent Design. The probability of other states are simply .. undefined.
He has allowed his zealousness to cloud his rationality.
do we get to choose the ethnicity of the virgins?Originally posted by nomood:I get really really annoyed when people start on and on about how the bible IS the truth, and insist upon it.
They really need to take one step back and examine how they are looking at the bible.
Like you said, rational inquiry. Otherwise, like i said, there's a very likely danger of wayward insistance. such as a heaven with 99 virgins.
Oh man, i love that. heaven with 99 virgins. One of my favourite quick quotes. I must have used it at least 3-4 times....
So is String Theory generally accepted now?Originally posted by nomood:And thus, like i said, physics is a test of mathematical equations, not the other way round.
Once disproved, whether by physics or some other method, the mathematical equation would be invalid. Which was what i was saying to begin with. Theories are generally accepted to be correct until disproved.
I think you are refering to another religion here, right?Originally posted by nomood:Like you said, rational inquiry. Otherwise, like i said, there's a very likely danger of wayward insistance. such as a heaven with 99 virgins.

okok... meaning some one just "point east, hit west"Originally posted by Icemoon:That religion cannot be named. Even the Pope scared of them.
Not sure... has it been disproved yet?Originally posted by Icemoon:So is String Theory generally accepted now?
that's a good question, actually. I need to find an al qaeda extremist to ask what they were promised...Originally posted by Icemoon:do we get to choose the ethnicity of the virgins?
you really have to backtrack and read how we got to the 99 virgins thing.Originally posted by vince69:I think you are refering to another religion here, right?
As far as I know, none of the predictions have been verified yet. Furthermore, there are other competing theories or spin offs.Originally posted by nomood:Not sure... has it been disproved yet?
don't be lazy!! re-read the posts and post something constructive!!Originally posted by vince69:okok... meaning some one just "point east, hit west"
