i agree with Rep John 2 on both homosexual and mental institute issues.
On gays, personally i just feel that they are people with low self-esteem and mental strength. Have you read recently about this particular group of gays planning to go to Jerusalem to practise open sex?? I mean, it's 1 thing to be a closet gay, but it's another to be open AND be a nuisance to others.
On Woodbridge, if you study sociology, you would know that Emile Durkheim conducted a study on these mental houses. He concluded that these places do not make the "patients" better, but rather enforces the belief that they ARE mad. So i guess its how society as a whole places a stigma or stereotype that significantly binds us to that social group unconsciously. -

the prime minister (or some minister) of singapore was complaining about the rise in suicide rate in singapore very recently.
dont you think that the first step this country should take is to educate the poeple here and tell then the TRUTH? and try to remove the stigma (which i know is impossible).
not only do these places make the people think they are mad. it also makes some people WORSE. a lot of people with mental illnesses should not be made to go into recovery at such places unless they ask to. its weird. lets take someone who is anorexic. she believes that she is FAT. and by forcing her to go into recovery, she will think that people are trying to force her to become even FATTER. the thing about mental illnesses is that it is sometimes actually possible to 'control' it to a certain extent. so yes, they will let the docs force feed them, they will eat in the hospital until they reach an acceptable weight and are let out. THEN, THEY WILL GO BACK TO THEIR OLD WAYS!
please note that the above example does NOT apply to all who suffer from anorexia.

Many people are penalised bcos they have suffered or are suffering from some kind of mental illness. Just like an ex prisoner or convict. Do u know they ask whether u have suffered from any mental probs in the job application form? See how they discriminate? Lucky they never ask whether u are gay or not. -
I pray for God's mercy on those who are suffering terribly right now. I pray for God to deliver the homosexuals & mentally ill or distressed.
Call out to Jesus. He is beside you. He hears your cries. He has saved you by His blood. He died for you. He never condemns you but if u still stubborn, u would have only condemned yourself. He loves you. He wants u to be His bride the church. He is coming back for us. He is tarrying so that we can all be saved. God is very patient with us. Dont try His patience any longer. Go to Him & He will help you.
Even if u cannot recover fully, He will always be there to support u & love u. & one day, He will come from the clouds to snatch us up & so we will always be with the Lord. If u have died in the Lord, He will resurrect you with a new body. He will wipe away every tear from our eyes. The pain will be no more. Hang in there! Praise God & thank Him!

the thing is, some people, like you, see one of these fake gays and assume every gay is like that, and mistakenly think that being gay is a lifestyle choice. but its not. however, it makes it worse when u then disseminate this sort of inaccurate info which further leads to others to use as a justification for spreading hate.
EVEN if it was really a lifestyle choice(altho its not) would it hurt to take the option that does not promote or justify hate? -

Abstract:
The authors investigated the role of homosexual arousal in exclusively heterosexual men who admitted negative affect toward homosexual individuals. Participants consisted of a group of homophobic men (n = 35) and a group of nonhomophobic men (n = 29); they were assigned to groups on the basis of their scores on the Index of Homophobia (W. W. Hudson & W. A. Ricketts, 1980). The men were exposed to sexually explicit erotic stimuli consisting of heterosexual, male homosexual, and lesbian videotapes, and changes in penile circumference were monitored. They also completed an Aggression Questionnaire (A. H. Buss & M. Perry, 1992). Both groups exhibited increases in penile circumference to the heterosexual and female homosexual videos. Only the homophobic men showed an increase in penile erection to male homosexual stimuli. The groups did not differ in aggression. Homophobia is apparently associated with homosexual arousal that the homophobic individual is either unaware of or denies. -

The classification of homosexuality as a disorder was changed in DSM-III because of the definition of "disorder". A defining aspect of a disorder is that it generates distress in the individual. Since homosexuality in itself does not create distress, it is not a disorder. What does create distress is either:
1) a disparity between one's self-image and one's sexual orientation
2) getting fed up with self-righteous assholes who give gays a whole lot of grief
As such, homosexuality per se no longer fit the definition of a disorder and its classification was changed.
This is not to say that homosexuality is entirely excluded from the diagnostic process. DSM-IV still accommodates for distress that results as a side effect of a person's sexual orientation.
Of course, if you wanted to extrapolate all the way, the same section of DSM-IV would apply to a straight person being distressed by living in a predominantly gay community.
I'm sure the religiously oriented will have plenty to say about the classification process, and I expect that many members of the APA woul have contested the reclassification back in the 1970's, but that the end of the day, practicioners deal with what is, not what should be. -

I feel that homosexuality is a mental illness & should be classifed as such. Long time ago, it was classified as one but i don't know when for whatever reason it became an alternative lifestyle.
Psychologically speaking it is not an illness. There is no medicine in the world tat can help to "cure" homosexuality. Many homos do not experience any sad or abusive incidents in their youth. My personal opinion is the other forms of mental problems can be treated with medication. Homo can't. I think the viewpoint from psychology is more accurate than personal viewpoints.Buddhism has silly rules like not eating beef. What has not eating beef got to do with salvation of one's soul? Just bcos cows are sacred to the buddhists due to cultural context so cannot eat them?
I think tat is pretty insulting. I can phrase it in another way. Christianity has stupid rules such as tilthing and they believe tat god is corrupted and require monetary aid ?

Homosexuals have already gone overboard by trying to impose their views even on children. I wont bother if they stay quiet & indoors but now they have flagrantly gone outdoors in full naked view, indulging in their flesh & insisting on their rights!
If after so much research has been done to find that homosexuality is in part due to the genes, and is still classified as a mental illness, then rightfully, heterosexuality should also be classified as a mental illness. The only sane people left in the world would then be monks, nuns, and the dead.

Like I said, homosexuality was reclassified because it did not fit the distress criterion for defining disorders. There's a lot more to it, such as the degree to which the condition interferes with the person's daily activities, but the point here is that curability is not the defining point. -
I c... but is there treatment such as electric shocking on some part of the brain to cure schizophrenia ? Or antipsychotic medicine ?

Nope. There are some methods and medications for attenuating the symptoms, but there's nothing that can be counted as a cure.

There are antipsychotic medication to relieve symptoms. As to whether there is a cure or what is a cure for schizophrenia is still debatable.
