It all depends on what you want to achieve.
If you want to return to your pre-backslide stage, then you need to get back to God. If you want to return to your pre-Christian stage, then you don't really need to do anything.... you are there.
Only if you can decide on which destination you want to go to then you can know your path. No one can help you make this decision except yourself. -

First, Satan will make every effort to discourage the backsliding one to return.
However God promises the backsliding one this:
" Jer 3:22 "Return, you backsliding children, And I will heal your backslidings."
The backsliden person has a part to do and that is to return. And when you do that God will do His part.Confess your sins, Return and do the first works.
Second, find a mature Christian whom you can open up your situation. One who will pray for you and be your keeper. One who will help you up again on your feet. REach out and find help from others.
Ga 6:1 'Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.'
Third, stay away from the causes of your backsliding.
a) bad company
b) lack of fellowship. no part of a body will stay healty if he remains seperated from the body.
c) bad relations. fixed it.
d) poor foundation. the person who is not getting enough sound teaching from the Word is weak and therefore susceptible to backsliding.
e) prayer. never underestimate the value of prayer in our daily life.
f) compromise with the world. maintain a healthy seperation.
g) playing with temptation. WATCH and pray that you will not enter into temptation.
P.S. it is my responsiblity as a Christian to pray for my brother or sister who is backsliding. I will certainly pray for that person my friend whoever she is.

i just want to say that God loves you. And will always give you the choice to choose. he respects your free will. but like a loving father, he awaits you to come back home where you'll be safe and loved and accepted.
look at the 2 robbers who were crucified beside jesus.
one of them asked to be saved, and jesus loved him enough to save him.
the other robber cursed and mocked him, and jesus loved him enough to let him.
we could hv made many bad choices in our lifetime, wrong career, wrong school, wrong group of friends..
just like the robber. maybe he hung out with the wrong group of friends, made some really bad choices in life. but in the end he went to heaven. and all because he made the one good choice in his life. to simply believe and be saved.
trust me. i made lots of bad choices in life. alot of which i regret. even as a christian now. i still make wrong choices, get into alot of mess. but i know that the one good choice i made years ago, will offset every bad choice i will ever make in this life.

A backslider is a genuine believer in Christ who has let his sinful nature get the upperhand of him. One need not do out and out sins to be a backslider. It is different from an apostatizer. this is a person who is not really a believer from the start but just looks like it.
