we haven't got any consultants here.. what we do have instead are a bunch of new grads touted as high fliers by the management. However, so far, most of them failed to impress the non-high-flying us.Originally posted by the Bear:my organisation, under the lea-duh-ship of a gone-but-not-missed no.1 hired a lot of them...
they only served to mess up a pretty okay organisation, collect their consultants' fees and disappear...

like my organisation's current no.1... fast-track high-flyer... thing is, i didn't know weasels can fly

i dun care if the weasels can fly, so long as they dun sh!t in my backyard.
let's hope he'll really live up to all those expectationsOriginally posted by the Bear:hmm.. my org's weasel has done a lot of that
must endure... rumours from high places say that there's a new no.1 coming in.. worked for us before... and he's the no-nonsense type.. tough taskmaster but fair.. will not stand for politicking, ankat-bola-ing, and most of all, backstabbing.. he'll shoot you between the eyes in front of you if you do that
most of the organisation is waiting with bated breath for the memo on high saying that the guy will take over from the current no.1
Originally posted by skinnybeanie:let's hope he'll really live up to all those expectations
well, at least you guys get a break. Our terok manager left, then we all held our breath in expectation of a good one... And then in comes this ang moh who's not any better. So... we are all waiting for the next change.Originally posted by the Bear:the rumoured new one? he will.. he was seconded to be our no.2 before...
when he was acting no.1 when the then-no.1 was away, things ran beautifully..
he also had a run-in with the then-no.1 (who was also a danger and a liability to whatever organisation he was in)
strange thing my organisation.. they'll have one no.1 who will clean up everything, then another will come along and totally mess things up, then another will come clean things up...
talking to those working for about 25 years, this pattern has repeated itself for years!
needless to say, the current one is creating a mess.. we're just waiting for the next one
SINGAPORE: Singaporean workers like their work environment and enjoy levels of job satisfaction that are well above their Asian peers.
But they are not happy with their employers' supervision skills and teamwork practices.
And if employers are thinking of retaining workers through higher pay alone, it probably won't work for long.
These are some of the findings of a Watson Wyatt study on working attitudes in Asia.
The survey polled some 115,000 workers across 11 Asian countries.
Sixty-seven percent of Singaporean respondents to the survey say they are satisfied with their jobs.
And 68 percent say their work gives them a sense of accomplishment.
These are all higher than Asia Pacific norms.
Also, 61 percent say the amount of work expected is reasonable.
That's good for the employers, because worker satisfaction leads to commitment, which in turn affects financial results.
But high pay alone won't stop workers from job-hopping, when a better offer comes along.
Kwan Chee Wei, managing director of Malaysia/Singapore Watson Wyatt Worldwide, said: "Today, we know for a fact that, over and above compensation, it's really how much you engage your workers that is going to retain them in the long term."
Singaporean workers, though, are less happy with their supervisors and teamwork, according to the survey.
Only 38 percent rate their supervisors favourably, compared with the regional norm of 41 percent.
And only 31 percent believe their supervisors motivate them to do better, while 36 percent say their supervisors coach them to improve performance.
Mr Kwan said: "In the area of supervision, the perception by Singapore employees is that there clearly needs improvement, in terms of how supervisors are managing them...Supervisors, while they are good at getting the job done, are probably not as good in areas of coaching, development and mentoring the direct reports."
In other words, the survey suggests that employers would do well to improve communication.
Mr Kwan said: "We see a lot of Singapore companies today operating in a silo or compartmentalised mode of operation. If Singapore companies were to compete effectively on a global stage, there is so much more that companies can do better, in terms of leverage cross-functional relationships. " - CNA
