86 that one needless to say. 87 could well have been 867 and 83 could be 863 if Tibs started them.
89 starts its route from HGN. But if the Great Swap had been reversed I don't know what might have happened.
There were 3 possibilities when NEL was mooted. One has happened, one could have happened (pre-1999 status quo retained) and one should have happened (Great Swap in reverse).

Add on EUN route group too.
I have the same problem

89 may skip sengkang? prabably make some big loop in houkang before heading by tampines rd ...then when KPE opens it will go on the same route as 53 and 81?

Service 89 might just ply along Punggol Road only, or maybe follow the current service 72's route to TPE.
I remember service 88 was introduced in early 2000, it plied along Punggol Road thruout the Sengkang stretch from Hougang to TPE. At that time Sengkang estate was still under Tibs.

aiya if NEL was not even constructed, I dun think any public bus can cope NE corridor w/ Sengkang & Punggol progressive completion.

Yes, I notice it too. Service 88 when newly introduced was only a PAC service with NAC Scania N113CRBs in its fleet.
It was only when SBS took over Sengkang, services 864 and 865 got ADDs since day 1 and ADDs were also introduced on service 88. Services 82 and 86/866 got ADDs only sometime later.
I also remembered correctly what was indicated on the SBS takeover poster "SBS is here to serve you better, will be deploying Superbuses on 88, 864, 865..."
Hi Guys,
Need your help at sgforums Malaysia Corner "Malaysian come into S'pore forum & lecture Singaporeans ".
Many thanks.
Impressive record for NE after SBS tookover.
Sv 27 was extended into NE corridor. Sv 156, 159 and gang soon followed
Sv 87, 89 was soon introduced.
Sv 371 made history being 1st FAC feeder sv and e ball started rolling, never looking back.
Double decker fleet implemented.
Express Svs were rationalised, 508 -> 511. 501 & 502 extended into Sengkang.
I think Sv 84 & 864 was eventually rationalised over resources issue.

84 all the while existed from hg ctrl to WTC last time, 864 was a new svc intro by tibs. these 2 route were quite similar i think
