i was alerted of this topic by someone..
anyone of you idiots was that asshole who almost got killed in front of the church opposite the Cathay?
you fricken idiot.. you pranced onto the road oblivious of oncoming vehicles, endangering everyone around you..
a car had to swerve hard to miss turning you into a smear on the road while you snapped away at a bus happily..
everyone at the bus stop and around were glaring at your stupidity and almost destroying a good car and traumatising a driver with your insanity and almost your pointless death...
now, if you want to take a good picture without traumatising everyone, and causing a road hazard, we don't give a shit whether you live or die.. but die somewhere else... do not give grief to others..
go buy a 400mm or more lens on your stupid DSLR and take the goddamned picture from somewhere else...
please.. if you have to die to profess your unnatural obsession for a bigass box on wheels, try not to let your stupidity and insanity and lust for public transportation inflict misery on others.. goodness knows you're already embarassing yourself and therefore your relatives as it is without your cause of death on the death cert as "ran over by vehicle when he dashed into the middle of the road to take a picture of a bus"
We don't like our pictures taken. We feel we have done something wrong. We are kaypoh. We are Singapore, Singaporeans.
As bus photographers regulars sure will get at least a bad experiences. Although mine is not that bad compared to some others but I share my experiences here. A few times some of those busybodies uncles & aunties would bombed me with many questions on what am I doing, what camera am I using etc, which I get irritated when they bombed me with a hell lots of stupid questions. Got once an auntie even told me that taking pictures of buses is illegal as police may treat it as terrorism. Wth, I'm not taking pictures at interchange. Got one uncle even said taking photo of bus-stop siao!!! Sometimes I just can't wait to whack the hell out of them. Except for some cases where ang moh stopped by and asked me what am I taking pictures of in a nice and friendly way. But you gotta admit, ang moh are very friendly and very easily to start a conversation with. Ah, that I don't mind telling them what I'm doing hahax.

singaporeans style are different from ang moh countries mah. my case is different. instead being asked by aunties and uncles, i kena asked by 1 young man, asking me why i always come to the same place to take pic for so many times he saw me i believe, whether he is on the bus or just passing by somewhere. it was too sudden for me to prepare in such situation, making me dont know what to say.
If anyone ever said that "photography is prohibited at bus interchanges/mrt stations", challenge them to state which line in the Singapore Statute said that.
or ask them where is the no photography sign at the interchange/mrt station?
or ask them to write to their MP to pass this law.
he he he he

"we are bus-enthusiasts, have you watched tv?"
I had my fair share of nastiness. I did post once that I got held up by a BC for 40 minutes at WRI until I was given the chance to explain things properly to the OCC over the phone. Singaporeans can be notoriously paranoid and unreasonable if they want to be.
This isn't a local problem though. South Korea, United States also have tad a paranoia for photography.

Which part of WRI were you shooting at? The BC has no authority to detain you.
Assuming the bus watching is done safely.
Going to the same place.
Taking numerous pictures
Taking special notice of public transportation.
Add these together and you conclude 2 possibilities. Terrorist or a snitch.

Not even WRI, I was shooting an overall bus interior before I go off.

You should have asked for permission to photograph the interior first.

Good luck trying...I used to send out several written requests for permission, to be granted one is like striking lottery.
Verbal? "Oh, just write in to them..."
That's why I gave up train-spotting altogether. Notice why even local news agencies tend to use outdated footage of MRT stations?
While I'm considered an enthusiast myself, I can't understand the obsession of certain individuals towards bus photography, especially when locations, services, makes and models are repeated over and over.
New models, rare cameos or different buses for their own collection I can understand, but certainly not to the extent every outing and topic is only about photography, as well as showing off their photographs the moment they sit down.
If an enthusiast like me can feel bemused, let alone the general public.
Oh yes, like what the bear said, dashing across roads or acting suspiciously or simply making a nuisance of themselves only leave more reasons for people to question.

yes i agree. that was way too hardcore and has no sense of safety for himself. imo, would you sacrifice your life to get a shot of a rare/significant cameo and get killed halfway and in the end, unable to post it OR miss the chance to shoot or maybe board it and maybe get a ticket and hopes that it happens again next time?

Ask the bus driver / captain nicely, revealing your purpose for doing so and they will normally be quite obliging. Have never had any problems.

Personally I try to be as discreet as possible, not running amok for cameos(not that I know most of the time).
I think acting normal and blending in with society would do most bus spotters much good(so we won't attract the stares of BCs and passer-bys alike).

Unless you very suey zhong those drivers who are very niao.

If they refuse your request, simply accept that and move along. No point being die-hard insistent on getting that interior shot if the end result means that you get yourself embroiled in unnecessary issues.

I have not experienced this in South Korea(you mean Seoul?)... I take photos in cities in Kangwon-do but I have not experienced this.
Most of the time the drivers would even slow down for you to take a better picture of the bus(and them)...
I actually have quite a number of experiences of bus captains or service leaders trying to like insult me, and giving a pose into my pictures. As for the ones trying to insult me, and if my attitude wasn't there, i would just point a middle finger, since he has no rights to NOT allow me to take a picture of the bus.
As for what people like hack care us, i would like to come into this conclusion. Go up to the authorities lorh. They think we are terrorists, we go up to the authorities, ask them help us advertise. We are bus fans, not terrorists. But we have the freedom to take pictures anywhere we want actually, but Singapore too strict already, the authorities the brain stuff too much rubbish le, din notice that there's a group of bus fans in Singapore. As for TWS's case, they have no rights to call the police coz that's not a protected area.
Remember this can liao: If the picture you are taking does not include a protected area(eg. Cantonment complex that one near NBR), just take, you don't have the need to care about other people.
People think we are weird coz we are bus fans, Singaporeans don't know there's such thing what... Actually my teacher himself and my classmates already know I am a bus fantic, bringing bus models and service guides to school is normal to them already. I once brought both my folders of service guides to school for show and tell.
Back to snapping photos, I actually caught a good angle while the BC actually attempted to flash the lights at me. Anyway the weather's evening, so he on light i catch good angle I very happy. TWO SHOTS are both 720G, one svc 28 and one 29, just down my house that junction.

I agree.
Everyone have a choice of where pictures want to be taken. Even the Wikipedia has pictures taken in the interchange...

Frankly speaking I'm quite irritated by folks that only talk photos everywhere they go, the moment they have a chance to do so or etc. It gets on my nerves naturally as the whole thing on buses don't just revolve about a camera and photographs! And so, I cannot find a reason to explain their bizzare behaviour. I hope they can find something else to do with relation to buses and gain more exposure on a larger variety of bus-related issues instead of talking photographs every single time.

9818A : That one is really suey xiao. Pretended to act blur and would not take any explanation. "Bus fan? What bus fan? Interested in buses? You're *must* be a terrorist right?"
I believe even if I asked in advance, he would have chosen to probe further and the same would have still happened. It happened to be that 1% nasty one of the whole BC/SL population. You won't know one until you actually bump into one.
