Dunno. One of em is perm 33.
There are a lot a lot of BCs travelling in and out of JB everyday. They don't work SET Shifts, they only work A/P. Then they will have ample time to travel home everyday.

It's true that majority of bus-drivers are from the causeway and they are distributed around the depots in our island. I recognise some who are deployed from slbp.

Hmm.. if that's the case... quite difficult for a breadwinner to be a bus-driver if he's the only one having the income and has to support the family, the children and other domestic finances as well....

some clarifications. usually the shift change timings can be quite broad, ranging from 12+pm to about 3+pm. both E and S can start out very early as well, especially E. E will go back depot around after 2 trips, depending on the length of the route, while S stay out there longer to about late morning then go to depot. E will usually come out at noon to mid-afternoon, while S for afternoon, some can just come out at peak hours, do a few trips, then go back depot liao. TQ not necessarily be fixed 8am-7pm. plus 8-7 is 11 hours, TQ = three quarters. the BC will work about 8 hours. can come out at anytime from 7 to 11, go back to depot around 3 to 6.

That's why this thread was set-up. To let anyone (esp locals) know more about being a bus captain.
As for the bus licence from SBST/SMRT, I heard is Class 4A. But, you will only get that if you are employed under the respective bus companies, right?
If someone wish to learn it somewhere else, let's say for a general Class 4 bus licence, then where can they learn?

I dun mind where the bus driver come from. There's always a "first" in everything we do. It's a matter of how we are willing to learn. Hence, if they do their job well... willing to learn and dun show attitude problems..... where their origin is doesn't bother me at all.

Frankly say Public Bus driver is suitable for those age 35 years above. Its very hectic and challenging job.Imagine those w/o personal transport have to spend at least 1.5 hours free ust to get to depot/or back from depot/EB/WT bus.So this job is for those who really dun mind the timing and passenger moods only.

Yea.. most of the SLs, who don't take employee buses, drive motorbikes to collect their buses. Pretty cute actually. Wonder whether any SL drives Lexus/Mercedes to work?
As for those who dun mind passenger moods, I feel who are willing to put up/tolerate with passengers' attitude? Terrible day to start with. It's not easy to handle them. They can heave a sigh of relief so long those menacing stares don't evolve to fights.
