i'm okay with announcements to inform passengers of the surrounding areas the bus is passing by. but i hope not too much "no eating & drinking, beware of suspicious blablabla" announcements.
and also hope they can provide good maintenance so the volume wouldnt be too loud like some TVM or get squeaky like there's a mouse in the sound system!
just to take note of a seriuso error.
the gemilang bodywork is not citaro its a CapaCity
proof

The OF, OC, and OH designations are used for chassis' produced by Mercedes-Benz do Brasil Ltda. Coincidently, MBdB produces a chassis known as the OH 1830 LE, also known as the O 500 U. The "F", "C", and "H" in this case stands for front-engined, centre-engined, and hind-engined respectively.

Are you trying to say that the visually impaired cannot take the bus if the annoucement system breaks down one day? Then how do our visually impared passengers take the bus now without annoucements? We're all used to not having any annoucements on buses. I believe the visually impared passengers who take the bus will be familiar with the route or have a service guide with them. On a side note, I think the annoucement system came with the bus itself.
PIS or pax announcement system do help a lot beside service enhancement.
PS:Fang Sheng and all SMRT fans at least there's something to celebrate about for this year at least huh?
I think the orange seats would be my favourite seats.
the logo really orbit leh..
Wondering will they use MITSUBISHI FUSO bus in the future

would 299PS by any chance translate into 299HP?
EDIT: nvm. i found the ans from an online conversion service.. 299PS translates into 294.5 HP which gets us around 295HP.
hmm. this thing has 5 horses more than the B7R. wonder how both would fare if put into a full, flat out dragrace.
not to forget that this also benefits from 50Nm more torque than the B7RLE's D7E290.

hu says so? TIB616G tio this ad liao!
So these are the new "Citaros" I've been hearing about.. hmm no more fabric Euro seats..they'll be missed. Never liked these vinyl seats, they tend to get warm.
Hmm... Just wondering if the wheel rims will be painted black this time... Looks abit weird for SMRT to have silver rims. Maybe just not used to it.

In fact these kind of seats are much better than those fabric seats, they always absorbs dusts.

I just hope that the annoucement voice will be something like Juanita Melson's voice (the annoucer for SMRT old annoucements). I do not wish to hear a irritating pretty young lady putting on a fake accent.

Don't paint the wheels black please. Its better to not paint the wheels.

Haha, i prefer it silver, but i think either way it will become black... Black paint, or black soot.

it is not a ctiaro. its a OC500LE. Citaros have totally diff engines and must be bodied integrally with mercedes benz.
the only thing confirmed citaro-ish about our own OC500LE is that...
1) seats are confirmed Citaro style seats (Dave)
2) The dash closely resembbles that of a true Citaro (ZYX n Dave)
things not Citaro-sih are
1) the front design is for a CapaCity (another integral product from benz)
2) The rear door is not the train style slide out type found on the Citaros
3) the air-con panneling style is not Citaro (is gemilang of cuz)
4) the side windows glass are too short to be consider Citaro (of cuz gemilang windows r not full length-ish like Citaro)

since i got pretty much nothing to do, i shall say some opinions and thoughts of the bus
The Mercedes Benz OC500LE was developed by Mercdes Benz as a successor to the O405 model range. i guess the year was 2003 or 4. then the bus probaly came in EURO II or III formats.
In oct 2004, a demosntrator unti from Perth Austrlaia was shipped to Singapore for public showing by Daier Crysler, the local marketter of Merc. the bus was TP1854 from transPrth, a large bus co operating for the city of perth. the event was held at the grand hyatt hotel enar far east.
TP1854
reg: CNg1854 (in Singapore)
Merc OC500LE OH1824LE (note the abuse of a brazillain merc chassis code is always welcomed to reflect the HP of the bus)
18 tonne - 254HP max output
Bodywork - volgren Cr228L
Tanny: ZF6HP592C Eccolite II
Fuel - CNG!!
The bus was green. CNg ffuel leh. . I reckon it could had been EURO V in 2004..and EURO V emmisions were not out yet in 2004!
i enjoyed how the Zf6HP592C gearbox sounded like but din really digg how the way the gearbox lock to slow down the bus. it jerked the bus and the engine reving was uneasy. much like B9TL. nevertheless it was a thrill to ride the bus. the engine sounded a scania mixed with the )405 of the day.
I guess MRT then was smitten by the bus. they probably aimed to order the bus.
in 2007 or 2008, Mercdes benz revaped the Citaro range. it was at this time i guess the OC500LE was revamped. th revamp took the bus into the EURO V age. one may call this the OC500LE mark 2 if they will. the engine specs were changed. The bus became a
OC500LE OH1830LE
I am unclear as to when the Bluetec technology was developed for a merc bus but it was laucnhed in 2006. and all the SCR and Adblue n stuff.
With all that emmisions reduction and catalytic conversion stuffs, the bus met EURO V. and some say EEV. the ultimate in emission standards today is EEV.
On apr 30th 2008, SMRTbus laucnhed thier OC500LE bought recently to singapore at NUS UCC.
Dave who is from perth told me that the bus tranny shd be the Zf6HP592C 9 a tranny for euro 2 and 3 buses) . i read soemwhere else that the newer EUOR IV and V rnage of Zf tranny cd not be coupled with the bus.
my two cents worth on my feelings for a OC500LE mark 1 and mark 2 (aah hem my own coined names - not cleared for use yet)
