Perhaps, it is possible. But on another record, service 854 had been the guinea pig service for many new bus types. It had been the guinea pig for the Hino HT238 NAC's, the Hispano O405 OAC's (TIB426M), the Scania Striders (TIB562C) as well as the Malaysian UMW Lances. For one plain simple reason that service 854 passes nearest to AMDEP, it is a good route to monitor for.

Yep, missed that out.

It seems that SMRT has followed the TIBS tradition. According to ZYX, the Habits were on trial on service 190 before the official launch of the bus on 18 June 2000. So what your friend saw is highly possible. They could always use "TIB 0000".. Lol
hmm.. this bus seems to have broken tradition.. no hub reduction axle.. and look at the nice ride height.. =D
more bumpers..

Hub Reduction axles is there for older buses cause the engines then aren't powerful enough. Now with powerful engines, there isnt any need for hub reduction axles.

i see. thanks for sharing.
but still, the bumpers... =D goodgame.

Its not. Infact, its a copycat of the face lifted Citaro. Try searching for the face lifted citaro (or aka Citaro MKII) and you will find alot of similarities.

Haha I guess degree of similarity is subjective from person to person... and yes, it resembles a Citaro II very much as well. I guess it is some sort of a baseline benchmark for city buses.
Sorry to say but the big mercedes logo badge spoils the whole front. and the body work looks too similar to the volgren mercedes O405. However, I am pretty sure the performance of this bus will be better than the k230ub.
Just my 2 cents.

Agreed...the logo wont look as bad if its background is red instead of black... now it looks like a big round jet engine air intake like that of a MiG-15 or MiG-17. But at least now we are assured that the merc badge wont go missing with the SMRT red livery like the Habit bendies did!

I believe that's the lowered height to allow ease of boarding and alighting.
and the gd thing abt this: Sutrak aircon and most probably, LAWO orange EDS like those on TIB565U, TIB484U and TIB595H.
Info by some insider:They will consider a few bendies probably 30-40 units if really the need arises.Second i heard AMDEP will shift to other location @ Kranji too will shift once the lease expired in a year time.Thirdly 2 new basic services by year end. From the rumours i've heard is Sembawang to Bt Panjang via Expressway @ CCK to Yishun. This is the one out of 3 that i saw in WLDEP body repair ctr
From news: the new buses will go on the streets in 2 weeks time

I doubt the aircon is Sutrak. Most probably Konvekta by the looks of it.
From what I see from the pictures, the front looks simmillar to a Citaro and it's the case that the front bodywork of the SBST MAN Bus and SMRT OC500LE was supplied from their respective Manafacturers
SBS MAN Bus = Lion City front
Scania K230UB = Modified Scania Omnibus front
Merc OC500LE = Merc Citaro front
That's what I am observing from the bodyworks that Gemilang is doing. But I say, the interior looked very 'standard' to the other WABs. But it's good SMRT put a seat behind the driver's dash. Can seat 2 more people. Well, I believe it's now residing at WLDEP for the moment. Contenders for the first service to get these new ones in my opinion are;
171, 167, 190, 187, 960, 961, 969, 965, 67, 61

they gotta start e way how drivers drive their buses... it isn't fuel efficient either... speed and do hard braking at bus stop.. nothing but waste diesel
Sorry to burst your bubble,I knew that you hated SMRT so much but i do insist if you could really give it a rest just for this once please?SBST drivers aren't that skillful either.Period

Just let him be... Even if he hated SBST he wouldn't say it out. Empty vessels usually make the most noise.
They really need to bring in new bendies... just looking at the current state of the Habits already very saddening... about 75% of AMDEP bendies got squeaky articulators, wierd engine noise, this hole that hole...

Too big for such a badge... everything else looks OK.
Anyone knows the brand of the seats? Looks like the PVC ones which SMRT retrofitted onto the first batch of O405s recently. BTW, why is there a green seat out of so many red/pink seats?

I guess the current working hours for the buses makes it hard to have proper and thorough maintenance very often. Also we have to bear in mind the fact they have buses going refurbishment too. I guess this situation should improve when the new buses come into service.
not to forget the various box bendies on the road which have the 'accordion' connector dragging its innards on the road..

They recently started removing dress rims again. So ugly. =(
