I am new here.
I just finished reading this thread, and found out that it has been locked, and just finished reading the sticky notes. I think it may have been locked because of some bashing other countries issue?
1) I am curious on the refurbishment Singapore have done to the Leopard 2A4, AMAP composite armor and would like to seek opinion from bros here on whether do you guys think it is comparable to Leopard 2A5,A6.
2) Also, after searching for quite a while, I am bewildered by some report that claimed Singapore has took delivery of 182 Leopard 2A4 as of 2013. Where did they get the report from?
3) Overall it is an awesome deal for Singapore. :)
The L2A5 added armour to the L2A4 which is exactly what SAF did. There were also other design changes e.g. gunner sight, gun braking in L2A5 but the L2SG can probably be considered an L2A5 equivalent. The L2A6 introduced a L55 gun.
The 182 number is taken off a SIPRI report which can be accessed from below.
More accurate (in my opinion) data is probably from UN arms register. In that register, the German Government reported 158 sold to Singapore whilst Singapore Government acknowledged 156 (up to year 2012). 2013 deliveries will only be reported in July/August.
