Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, under fire recently for allegedly misappropriating millions of money from the nation’s Central Provident Fund, has hit back at his accuser by trying to get him where he hurts most – his wallet.

pay him so much for what?
end up he don't know how much his "people" earn.
$5000 to us is a lot (quite a number earns this over 4-5 months)
and to him ... (note: $5000 in matter of hours or even minutes)

why so upset over other people's pay? if you are earning $1000 a month, you are not paying income tax, so you are not paying for many things, let alone the ministers salaries. Lets focus on what they should do and what they should not do. There are many who are paid phenominal salaries, a lot lot more than what we can imagine.

not that but the quality of whatever things in sink-a-poor is crap. should we be thankful for the lesser problem in housing or should we be cursing at the state of our public transport system?
So many self consoling , self defeating people here.
If you think you don't deserve better, you won't get better.
Why do you think our country is no longer a fishing village ?
Fishing village very good wat. Stress free life, no need to worry about jobs.. every day go fishing, come home make sushi.. life is good.
Tell govt don't work so hard lah.
Let us become fishermen villagers and farmers again.
We no need pay invome tax, they no need million dollars salaries...
Give each family land to farm and build more boats lah.

We don't ignore the shortcomings in our society while we enjoy the good things we have. but to engage the government to open their eyes to the needs of some people in our society, we need to be more constructive.
There are people in our society who are not good in expressing themself, cannot write emails or use facebook, we will do them great favour if we understand them and speak for them, let the government know we know the people better. Highlight what can and should be improved! These people will appreciate you better.
But if you don't present your case and only make noise, then what you are saying is just noise. Worse if you stay outside of Singapore, and shout, "i want more, i want more...." they won't get anything, for they deserve nothing.
there are many people working to improve our society, our country, not from the ruling party, be one of them.
Voicing out national issues is self defeating , ROFL .....
Be constructive ? How ? Like sugar coat everything, kiss their butts first ?
The government is not Royalty with fragile egos. It's the government job to put their ears to the ground even if they get a sandful on their face. Their job is to listen to the common people and try to understand our lowly language ,not the othrr way round.
And for goodness sake, why are you harping on the distance between me and my homeland ? If that's your sole weapon to discredit me, you are just being pathetic. For someone who lives in SG, you are more disconnected to the people than me.
And you are right. I won't benefit and I don't need it. but our families and friends will. Unlike you who only care about yourself.
Better to have people who cares speaking up , than to have someone living in SG who doesn't care and telling Singaporeans to shut up and be content.
Yes we want more, more for our people. What's wrong with that ? Our people deserves better.
So yes people need to make more noises.

ooops....we have different vocab....
"constructive" is not sugar coated or kissing butts in my vocab.
"criticism" "suggestions" are not noises to us. But we are getting used to haze from far away places, and noises from the cars, the mosquitoes... as part of city life, but we filter them out immediately.
From what is said, we know how much you know. Lots of frustrations, anger.....you need to sort them out yourself.
If the words of common people are not criticism and suggestions, but are mere noises to you, then you are obviously speaking a foreign language.
Go ahead and live in your world of denial.
And please, stop pretending you are LHL.

common people, common or uncommon, we make noise, we fart, we sometimes talk nonsense, we also speak sensibly, we suggest, and we criticize....the difference is in the wisdom to discern which is which. Not all have such wisdom.
Defamation suit against blogger
PM applies for ruling without full trial
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has made an application for the High Court to rule in his favour in his defamation suit against blogger Roy Ngerng, without going through a full trial.
Lawyer M Ravi. who is representing Mr Ngerng, disclosed this in an e-mail to the press about Mr Lee's application for a summary judgement.
A summary judgement is a procedure where a plaintiff claims that the defendant has no case and seeks judgement in his favour without a trial.
'NO DEFENCE'
In the application, Mr Lee's lawyer Davinder Singh argued that it is within the jurisdiction of the courts to rule in favour of Mr Lee at this stage of the case since Mr Ngerng has "no defence". He added that "the only issue to be determined is damages".
The senior counsel asked the court to issue a provisional decision on how much damages Mr Lee should receive. He also asked the courts to ban the continued publication or dissemination of the offending blog posts containing the allegations.
Mr Ngerng, 33, is being sued for defamation after alleging that Mr Lee had criminally misappropriated CPF savings in a May 15 blog post. He followed it up with a few other posts and videos on the same topic.
Last month, in a defence filed in court, he said that he never intended to accuse Mr Lee of misappropriating CPF savings. He also argued that the key concerns raised in his May 15 blog post, which is at the centre of the suit, were the lack of transparency with which CPF funds are managed, and the question of interest on these saving, among other things.
