These are two small things amidst bigger publicity-generating issues, and hardly score points for these politicians (or worse, may be used against them). But precisely because of that, I see authenticity in their actions.
I hope we continue to see more of this.
When the heart is in the right place, the politics will follow.

In more corrupt countries such as India elections, politicians are known to exploit loopholes to stuff ballot boxes with votes.
In Singpaore, the PAP stuffed parliament with GRCs to keep out smaller opposition parties and independent candidates from parliament when they could have just used an NCMP like system to accomodate a necessary quota of minority racial MPs (voting rights only apply to racial based issues etc).
U can fool all people some all of the time, U can fool all people some of the time; BUT U cannot fool ALL people ALL of the time: PAP must do some good work mah, just incase the people suddenly wake up to the hard truth of being deceived this long... even the most rabid gamblers will cringe at the Punggol East by-election result. Would be PAP's downfall to approach the GE with the same attitude as it approached the P East by-election with their usual holier than thou attitudes....
If their vote share in 2016 is 55%, guess it will mean that in 10 yrs, PAP isn't in power anymore... -
