benefit of doubt given...i quite bored anywaysisters studying in taiwan, she travelled to taiwan & australia alot according to her and she is only 20. parents probably not the typical singapore aunty type.
her accent has australian influence but isn't australian. i wud think more american aussie + singapore.
in her utube account her name is not stephanie koh but steph mycale....parents or one of them might have filipinno blood in them. stab in the dark rly but thats my guess.

The comments are the interesting ones. Alot are Singaporeans who agree.

I like the way she speaks English so perfectly. I should learn more from her and drop my horrible Singaporen accent.
Oh, and she's making very good points about Singapore as well, yes I agreed that Singaporean can be very narrow. Too bad I have to stay in Singapore Land for a long time, I hope to be able to become an FT (foriegn talent) soon. ;)

I am proud of my Singaporean accent and our own vocab, hanor, yaloh, denhor...siok!!
I strive to speak good english with proper sentence structure, good grammar and appropriate vocab.
There are good things about Singapore, and there are bad, Singapore is not perfect. Good things are bad to some and bad are good to others, nobody is perfect.
I can live in any country, and I think if I apply I can migrate to many other countries, but I choose Singapore for many reasons. don't need to talk bad about other fellow singaporean.
She is not proud of Singapore, we are not proud of her.

I agree... I am quite proud of our Singlish, because in a way, it's like a special identity to us...

Afterall, from her constant "lamenting" speech, she will simply just blame everything and anything but her ownself, when things do not go her way... In a way of her thinking, she is always correct...

unlike other countries.. we have no social problems. no natural disasters.. orchard flooding and haze no count ok.
our people are the wealthiest in the world. we got money but we don't want to share. we stare at our CPF.. see no touch.
those old folks on the street are no belong to us.. they swam over from donno where.
yes, i also donno why people like to comprain ..comprain..
if we always compare to 3rd world country.. we will know our red dot is forever superior.. these countries are our source of cheap labor. i so happy they never become 2nd world.. yes please remain 3rd world so we get cheap cheap.. that way we feel rich.
i am very very proud to be singaporean. i like to stick my head in the sand and pretend everything perfect you know. that way i no have to do anything to be better lah.. its hard work leh !

Singapore is such a small place, can't take all the people, you happy come stay, whether you are Chinese, Malay, Angmoh, Indian, Pinoy, Burmese.....you not happy stay far far away.

No pride does not mean shame. There's humility. Speaking out against out own undesirable behavior is being aware of our own short comings so we may better ourselves.

I think the point (and i could be wrong) that jojo is trying to bring across is to be subjective.
It isn't a case of "staying in Singapore should be proud of Singapore."
Singapore has points it should be proud of. However it does have points it is lacking. This is of course all a matter of opinion. However it becomes apparent that some will defend the country just for the sake of it.
I think this is what jojo is trying to bring across drawing comparisons with "Pinoy Pride" I've never heard of this term but I read the link she posted and incidentally I'll say her comparison is pretty accurate.
The problem with blind pride is that there leaves little room for improvement. I think jojo is trying to bring this across as well (albeit sarcastically) when she says

I believe its good to be open to criticism. It also shows graciousness and maturity. Debate about the points Steph said that's all good. you think she is popular, because she has been to korea, taiwan or australia? the other news I read about this girl is how she quarrelled with her aunt, that adds to her popularity.
some find interest in her accent, others thinks she got guts to speak, many saw exactly what she wanted to show, her cleavage!
so what is it that Singaporean must change? don't start bashing anybody who disagree with her or you. What if an australian has the same opinion as the philippino?
Pride is different from arrogance, humility is different from inferiority complex, preference is different from prejudice.
I have pride in myself because I have dignity, I have pride in my country because this is what I cherish. Nothing to do whether I am no 1 or no 2. This is not a zero sum game.

Everybody is entitled to his or her opinion in Singapore, but if you start to make uncalled for remarks, criticism about others, they have the right to response.
