White paper is about bringing in more people in their youth in order to keep jobs from leaving our shores but more importantly white paper reveals vulnerabilities of the future. The unspoken theme of this paper is all about cpf money and nothing else. Consider that many people now in their 40's are at the peak of their earning potential and this in turn means they are contributing a large component of their income to cpf but by 2030 these people will be retirement age and will want their cpf. According to singstats, in 2011, 20% of total population of 5.183 million were aged between 35-39. So by 2030 19 years later these people will be retirement age. Not everybody cpf amount is the same and not everybody alive now will still be around in 2030 so for simplicity sake we just use 2013 minimum sum of $148k and round off 1million to people who will be retire and alive by then. With simple calculation the total amount that cpf is on the hook for 148,000,000,000 (S$148 billion) to pay these people, when you consider official cpf totals are around S$300billion potentially 50% of cpf gone just to pay 20% of the population, no wonder they are worried push through this whitepaper in parliament despite so much vocal opposition. To be fair not everybody will get this amount because many will use their cpf to pay for housing. so we just pluck from the air 40% as eligible or 400k people will be able to access their 148k cpf that comes to 59,200,000,000 (S$59 billion) or 20% of cpf to pay 7% of people. In my humble opinion, I think you may have possibly omitted the import of rice which is Asian and Singapore main staple grain. " The ownership of the rice belongs to the individual stockpile participant, although the government has the right to acquire the rice (with compensation) during an emergency." I hope that at least alleviate your concern over the quantity and price of that commodity.
As for the Newater, I googled and found out that the "main tactic of the water trade is to simply push water through tiny holes—the smaller the holes, the fewer the undesirable molecules that can sneak through. The art is to do so without sending the electricity bill skyrocketing or clogging up the tiny holes with grime."
