Maybe Powered_By_CNG (Dave) can confirm this, but in Australia, they are also facing this same problem as well, with regards to electronics and effective power (engine seemingly not powerful).

Well what can be more, a good door gift for passengers on a maiden trip is a breakdown ticket.
In TIBS days, maiden trips are full of fun, not to forget to mention the director coming down to present gifts to first customers.
Now on to this SMRT and SPH... What can be expected? Instead of a proper opening, there wasn't and adding on the misery of cramming on the next bus...

my diagnosis is gearbox failure. basically the gearbox had difficulty syncing with the engine on the uphill approach from bt panjang rd onto BKE, and the engine started vibrating when its power could not be properly transmitted through the gearbox to the wheels, which resulted in a slow ride. the driver did several attempts to slow down to second gear (since first gear is equivalent to stopping completely) on the expressway to let the gearbox shift up normally. this worked until after eng neo flyover when the bus went into 6th gear for the first time on the whole journey, start vibrating and then stalled. the driver then cruised the bus to safety on the road shoulder. the driver then tried to restart the engine but cranking no longer works, probably because the battery did not really maintain its charge along the expressway portion of the journey.

so pro! BC wan to speed on new bus and especially on first trip! BC geh kiang. even BC of K230 didn't dare to speed in the first few days...

tried to pick up speed when gearbox and power transmission got problem

no. in fact he was driving so slowly during teck whye and bt panjang that 1042E took over. the 6th gear was just once and it was on the expressway on light pedal. -

before e'way the bus is doing fine. when it went up, naturally the driver would drive as per normal and the bus will kick down anyway to go up the slope. after that, the gearbox started acting weird, and that is definitely not within the driver's control. -

SPH said this before : Even a Rolls Royce can break down with proper maintenance during the MRT trains disruptions in the East side....... So it is not suprising the Mercz bus can break down.

sounds like a quiet version of O405, or similar to Transperth. (: -
