I was onboard a 913 bus when I saw this low floor bus in SMRT livery with advertisement.
Bodywork: (Suspected) Gemilang
Bus Manafacturer: Unknown
Rego: Not registered but rego plate shows 'SMRT' (Uses blue plate)
Advertisement: SMRT Go Green Advert (New SMRT Campaign)
Aircon: (Suspected) Denso
EDS Type: LED (Orange)
Emission Standard: Euro-IV
I hope that our new buses will have nice Volgren bodywork like our VSOs.
This should give you a VERY obvious hint as to what kind of bus model they are bringing in :) Notice the tip-out desto box, smiley front that's not as curved as the volgrens, and the hugely obvious Merz badge.
Official website GoGreenwithSMRT.com is still under construction but the pamplets and posters are up at all major MRT stations.

Want to squeeze somemore people in the train? Have a 60s freq first.
Our system cannot have 60s frequency, thanks to ATO system. Minimum time is 90s safety clearance.
Or you want another policy, to utilise trains to the maximum?

That is Japan for you, where train utilisation is very important and every train must be squeezed to the maximum usage. Frequency about 5-7 minutes in peak hours, 10 in local stops where express/rapid trains bypass. No comfort in AM peak. Decide yourself.

Then we can still have 90s freq to encourage people to take the MRT.
I must say at least SMRT is more environmentally-concious than SBST. SBS never emphasized on the advantage of taking public transport but SMRT luckily, did launch a 'Save-the-earth' campaign to have people take public transport.

I can't believe what I heard months ago is true.
It's Gemilang again!!
Wtf! Is this how SMRT buys its stuff?? It's soooo unlike TIBS then.

Right. How heartening when just a couple of weeks back, their beloved CEO proudly made a statement that contradicts this 'campaign'!
Oh dear SPH should be ashamed of herself..like totally!

Let's face it.. global transportation costs as well as that of raw materials are rising and outsourcing/local sourcing is the inevitable way to go. It is no longer realistic to import completely built buses (or even CKD kits for that matter) from European countries when there are alternatives available in our own region.
It's not about being cheapskate, but really about making sense.
We are lucky that the chassis is still European...

I get that.....but, so sad.
No more unique buses TIBS was known for.
anyway going green
they gotta start e way how drivers drive their buses... it isn't fuel efficient either... speed and do hard braking at bus stop.. nothing but waste diesel

I almost puked when I saw the advertisement outside Bishan MRT on Monday morning.
Train is still ok, at least they used their C751B trains. but for buses, dun even noe the model they used. scarcely like their tradition, use volgren but edited a lot of things here and there

U sure.. ??
Trying to have campaign is 1 thing. But at the end of the day, SMRT should do their bit by going green themselves 1st.
Be environmentally friendly, follow the CEO, drive a Mercedes Benz CLK/S/SLK 500.

Rmb when they took over TIBS, they just edited TIB1038T picture into SMRT colors with the wheels still yellow?
They did not even want to shoot a picture on their own... It was a bad impression start...
But it just isn't time to talk about SMRT being not TIBS liao... Its not TIBS to begin with, and, they are a whole new concept, good or not up to oneself...

A campagin like this might make SMRT seem more environmentally concious. Whether it is effective or not is another thing you might want to think about. However, the behind the scenes initiatives may tilt the picture in SBST favour. For example, SBST might carry more passengers for the same amount of carbon emitted.
Well maybe from what I seem to see form the responses, I had to agree that we all must not compare without looking in-depth into their efforts. Well, I felt like taking back my words but let's all conclude that both SMRT and SBS are helping reduce emissions
